I just agreed to a trade for a new, in-box carbon fiber Military with S30V steel. This seems to be a fairly rare variety of the Military line as I can't find much info about them. Were they part of a limited run or just not popular? Does anyone know the production dates/numbers for these knives?

Thanks for any info.

November 2005 as per the date code of KE and was probably a sprint run of 600-1200
You can check spydiewiki for further reference!
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize "KE" was a date code. That helps a lot.

Also, thanks for the wiki advice. According to the info there, only 400 were made in 2005. Guess that's why there isn't much info on the forums.

I'm interested to see how the S30V compares to my Sebenza. I've read that Spyderco's version is harder than CRK's.

For a lot of people, CPM S30V done by spyderco is one of the best steels on the market. I have a few models, and find that it holds a pretty good edge for a while, and even when you think that its "dull" it will still cut really well. Its hardened to around 60 rc compared to Chris Reeve's 58...

Is it possible to convert this model to tip-up carry? If not, I'll be trading it away when it arrives. I should pay more attention to details before I agree to trades.

It was basically a demo run for the peel-ply carbon fiber as a handle material, hence only 400 units. That sprint was its first ever use by Spyderco.

Tip-down only.
