I havent yet delved into the spyderco world. However, I was looking for a fishing/kayak knife and I couldnt find anything that made more sense than the H-1 steel from Spyderco. I went with the Atlantic Salt with the black handle. Looking forward to trying out the opening mechanism. Hopefully this isnt opening a new door in the hobby for me to dump my money into.

Nice pick-up. Spyderholes are awesome. I'm a big fan of my Pacific Salt. Super light weight (no liners) and H1 is great for weekends at the river or lake. I have an all black, but want to pick up a yellow, just cuz it's easier to find after toooo many ka-brews on sunny days.

Throw up a quick pic for ya:

I'm sure you'll dig it. I started buying Spydies back in 1995-96... I've been buying, carrying, and using them ever since. For example, here's my most recent (last year) collection photo:

I've sold off a lot of the older ones I previously had in order to fund the newer ones pictured - nothing wrong with that!

Congrats! I just bought my first Spyderco (Endura4) recently. Loving it! The Pacific Salt is on my short list of knives that I still want to purchase. Be sure to post some pics once you've used your new Spydie a bit and let us know how you like it.

Here it is as promised. I like the spyder hole opening feature. It is easy to use with our without gloves without much practice. The ergonomics are good, and the serrations ripped through some rope, cord, and nylon straps that I tested it on. It clips snuggly to my PFD for easy access on my kayak. Lock on it is strong and easy to disengage.

My only complaints are probably unfair, as I am comparing it to the likes of my ZT knives, but the structure of the knife is more flimsy than I am used to. I can apply lateral pressure to the blade when its open and feel it move a bit in the handle material. I dont know if i would call it blade play, as I have to be pretty rough with it. It doesnt measure up to the bank vault flippers I am used to is all. It will serve its purpose very well.

In fact, I ordered a Dragonfly 2 in the H1 to be my EDC for our trip this summer in Puerto Rico. Its a nice little blade that wont rust at the beach, but its not so expensive that if I have to give it up for some reason due to misunderstand their arguably vague knife laws I wont be too beat up over it.

Pics of the Atlantic salt

clipped to the PFD. Note the retention paracord on there.
