My first spyderco and loving it so far . Tempted to get a liner lock milie just to fully appreciate how awesome the RIL version really is, but I probably wont. Trying to keep my collection strictly ti-frame lock. Being a bladeforum member is proving to be an expensive habbit.
Funny how the milie fits in with the rougher strider/ZT/etc... military folder type crowd and yet its lighter, longer and it's flat grind makes it more useful at 'real' knife tasks. Love it.
Downsides or things that I need to get used to that I have noticed on the milie is that the blade isn't close to being perfectly centered, but that might just be a result of having such a long handle ( a slight misalignment on a 5"+ handle gets exaggerated, no rubbing though). The handle is so big that I don't see why spyderco didn't make the blade 4.25''+, there's tons of room to spare when closed. Also, the cutting edge isn't parallel to the handle, which is another thing I find awkward at first but I might get used to. Those are about the only negative things I have to say about it so far.
The ZT seems great for outdoors, camping style chores where you need to be rough on a knife in a wilderness type setting. The RW-1 is more of an urban/self defense design. The Spyderco seems best for when you don't know exactly what is in store for you or what types of chores you'll need to be doing. Its ready for anything and everything.
What a purchase and what a knife. Can't believe it took this long for the milatary to get a framelock. The two were meant to be. I have always been intrigued by spyderco designs but I could never buy one since they didnt offer framelocks. It will definitely be stealing some pocket time from my strider on a regular bassis, even if it is less then half the price,
