Hey everyone, I am looking to buy my first Spyderco. I like longer blades with solid lockup and a nice steel. I am sure many of spydercos knives meet those specs...but what would you recommend as a first spyderco to give them a shot?

Gayle Bradley. CPM-M4 steel is fantastic. For a companion knife there's the Bradley Air.

I really like the spyderco para 2 after looking the knives up and researching a bit more. I cant find them in stock anywhere but ebay though....how can i buy from ebay and know they arent fake? or is there another retailer out there?

Just a suggestion, but why not go with a cheapish one first, and get to love the Spyderhole, the quality and the sheer userfriendliness of Spyderco, and then upgrade later? Don't start with the best, leave yourself something to aspire to. So maybe start with Delica or Endura.

/Delica FFG. Anything bigger or with a fancier blade shape might not see much use in a urban situation and become a safe queen.

Do you want to buy cheap then buy mid then buy pricey? Or save some money and just buy one pricey?

There are many ways to get there, but you can save time and money by just picking up a Sage 1 and sleep well knowing you have a great package.

Or you can buy Byrd meadowlark. Then tenacious. Then delica. Then chaparral. Then sage.

The ending is the same. The collection is different.

If you like longer blades then I would look at the Endura 4 in just about any configuration. The Spyderco Military is larger but if you like that beefiness then that is another option as well.

The endura is an excellent choice, as many have pointed out. They make a run of that one with super blue steel that is pretty interesting too. You could look at the military too. I just got the ti model and it's a great knife. If you have any interest in a serrated blade then it's an easy choice. Get a se pacific salt.

They are all awesome. I started with a dragonfly salt and never looked back.

I know where some are. You can email me through my profile if interested. Can't post it here b/c they aren't a paid BF dealer.

Stretch ZDP-189

Decent blade length.

Awesome ergonomics.

ZDP-189 steel hold a great and razor sharp edge.

Its excellent value, and a good start to a certain collection.

You can go right to the Paramilitary2...but thats almost cheating.

Echo the Gayle Bradley! You want beef? You wont be asking that holding this knife? Unless of course you're looking for a cow to butcher!

I'll echo what 2 or 3 have already said.
Since you like longer blades: Lower price for Endura, or higher price for a Military.

Another vote for the Endura 4 FFG (blue)! It was my gateway Spyder. Adding up the totals the Endura FFG is your #1 so far...

Endura or delica sprint run, I just bought a delica super blue steel.

2 pages in and no votes for a Southard? Easily one of the top spydercos out right now.
