I'm looking to buy my first Spyderco, have looked at most of them and don't know which to get. Any suggestions?

You can get lots of opinions on that but we are going to need a little more info. How big (any legal limits to carry in your area?), to use for what, and how much are you willing to spend?

That said, here's where I am right now in preference:

Small: Wegner Mouse

Smallish: Calypso Jr. Lightweight, G-10 Harpy

Medium: Native

Large pretending to be medium: plain Shabaria.

Large: got to be the fully serrated Military. I have a bunch of Spydies and this is the knife whose design and quality always comes to the top. It really is a big handle though and that limits it in some ways.

Full size Wegner. Best of the bunch.

Simple. A Spyderco Native. Here's why:

Yes, it would help if you give us specifics. But the Native is, IMHO, hands down the best. Best balance overall when it comes to price, length of blade, blade-to-handle ratio, best steel, and a myriad other things I mentioned in the link above.

It was my first one by accident (was supposed to get a Calypso Jr. first but my second order for the Native took less time to arrive). I've gotten 6 other Spydercos since, and it is still my favorite!

Good luck on your purchase, whatever your decision. In the end, you just cannot go wrong with any Spyderco knife.

Hmmm, you didn't state the primary purpose of the knife (must consider laws also). But here's my take:

Less than, or near 3" --Calypso, Jr. Lightweight

Less than 3.5" --Native

Less than 4" --Endura Lightweight (However, if you are willing to part with some extra cash, Military. I use this size knife as my "everything" blade, and won't wince if I damage the Endura.)

4" and up...Chinook (I must have it soon)

Thanks everyone, wasn't to concerned with purpose really, just wanted the to own a Spyderco Knife. Looks like the general consensus is the Native first, and the Endura second, both the Mouse and the Chinook, look intriguing, but seem to be hard to find. Thans again to all, off to order.

My favorite, hands down, is the Calypso Jr. lightweight. It really is a great knife...

Native, best overall
Calypso Jr. ltwt., classy
Dragonfly, great travel companion
Spydercard, don't leave home without it
Delica/Endura, hard to go wrong with one of these
It's hard to stop at just one!

I recommend the Native. It has great steel for the price and is hand filling knife considering that it is only is about 7" OAL.
You also can't go wrong with the Delica, to me, it is the most basic Spyderco. The Calypso jr. lt.wt. is great too. If you want a smaller knife get a Dragonfly or a Navigator if you can track one down.

W-E-G, Gee this is a great knife!

I have the standard, rookie, endura, all are great knives. All three knives are great for light work. Easy to carry around too.
