Okay, I bought my first Spyderco.

Actually, I bought us each one, my wife and I each now have a Damascus, Titanium Delica.

I've carried a Benchmade for a few years, and I noticed three things as soon as we opened the package.

One, these knives are stiff. The action is truly stiff. Please, god, tell me they're going to break in and lighten up.

Two, they're noisy. They make a huge clack when they click open. My old Benchmade is silent. Or at lease, it can be silent.

Three, they're skinny. They feel very thin in my hand.

Oh, and they're beautiful. We're in. My wife took one look at the Damascus blade and folded the knife between her breasts and said "where's yours?" Fortunately, I had seen that coming, and was able to pull the second knife out of the package and say "right here." So there are no circumstances under which we change knives, because that's a conversation that just isn't going to happen. So these are our new EDCs.

Ha, very nice! As far as the 'clack,' I love it. Regarding the 'stiffness,' I'm not convinced I agree that they loosen up significantly, though it can seem that way. I think the reality is that you build up the muscles necessary to operate the knife more easily. For example, I thought my Delica had loosened up a lot from when it was new. Every time I hand it to someone else to use, they struggle with it. My brother, who also carries a knife cannot seem to snap it open like he's used to doing on his Rat II and Skyline, despite being much stronger than I. I also find others have trouble with the lock being a little stiff, but I no longer notice.

I do have a regular FFG Delica though, so your experience may differ. But here's an utterly boring video of opening/closing w/ one hand. When it was new I could not flick it open, nor could I close it with one hand.

Post a photo or two!

Congrats!

And don't worry, they will loosen up, and you'll be one-hand opening-n-closing them in no time.

way to go on your new purchases. thats a great product. esp the ti dam models. might loosen a little. the loudness is the lock bar snapping in place its not a bad thing. two fairly large pieces of metal locking together - vs - BM some pieces and spings locking would be not very loud. my opinion is you got a better products with better materials. its just well...you are used to benchmades.

I used to love those super decked out Delica models. I particularly loved the 25th Anniversary model Delica. You just can't hardly go wrong with a Delica or Endura model either one>> they aren't as sexy as like one of the Lum models or even an Ayoob for that matter but for dedicated EDC use they are great blades.

My very first Spyderco knife I ever owned was a bit of a different animal. Back in 1995 I got my first one at a Gun Show here in Kansas City, Missouri>> it was a GIN-1, stainless handled MARINER model in full Spyderedge. I had always heard that no one made as good of a serrated knife as Spyderco>> they were right!! I've been a Spyderedge fanatic ever since I got my first Hawkbill to use in an urgent situation and that was a VG-10 Spyderhawk in full SE.

You will never forget your First Spyder>> congratulations and welcome to the Spyder Fraternity :D
