I'm trying to decide what to get as my first spyderco (folders only). I'm looking at the paramilitary 2 to start me off, what would you say is the best starter spyderco? My price range is 0-$300.

Thanks.

PM2 is a great choice. I would also highly recommend the Sage 1 or 2, Stretch, and Delica. You have a LOT to choose from though. Spyderco has incredible variety!

Delica, Endura, Military, PM2, with your price range you could probably buy one of each lol! Really any of them aren't bad, it's just a matter of personal preference, how are you going to be carrying and using the knife, and for what purpose. For my money (and a lot of other folks) the PM 2 seems to be their best all around model. Let us know what you decide!

IMO you cant go wrong with a Para2.
Up to $300 you say? A Para 2 with custom scales?
It's expensive but the Slysz Bowie is a really sweet folder if you like Ti framelocks. Don't know as I would call it a 'starter', but it is superb.

Perhaps you should think about what lock type you prefer and go from there?

I'd recommend what I consider Spyderco's flagship knife, the Endura 4, to start you off - especially since there's currently a sprint run of HAP40 models available.

The Paramilitary 2 and Sage series are also fantastic. There's nothing bad I can say about these knives in their intended use.

I think a Native 5 g10 is a GREAT knife, I really love it. It's also a great deal considering what you get vs what you pay.

I also don't know if a Slysz Bowie is a "starter" spydie, in part because it's so excellent that it may skew your appreciation for less expensive Spydercos down the line. That being said, my Bowie is probably my favorite!

Pics when you get whatever you decide on!

Right now I am really digging my Spyderco Lil'Lionspy. It's awesome. Not sure if Spyderco really had anything to do with it, other than calling for the Spydie Hole, but I like this way more than I liked the Lionsteel SR2 that I used to own. I don't think it would be a bad place to start.

I would buy a Delica for all around use and at the same time buy either a Manix or a PM2. If you can, go to a store that sells them and try these latter two out and then decide.

You've gotten some great models suggested to you. My advice is to go to an authorized Spyderco dealer and see how you like the knife in your hand.

For $300 I'd get a pair of compare/contrast Spydercos. PM2, Manix 2, Native 5, Chaparral, Sage, Domino, Delica 4, Endura 4, Stretch, Military... pick any 2 in different handle materials and blade steels. That's how I started, with a Cru-wear Millie and S30V Manix 2.

I would but I'm Canada there aren't all that many dealers, the one I use is located in British Columbia so I order online

PM2 is a great knife. Delica (pick your color) is a good knife for just about anything. I would say Delica first. Another good starter would be the Native 5 light weight.

Sometime you end up going full circle too. You know like in my case a delica started me off then I ended up getting a sage 1, 2 and 3, Domino, Southard, I had a Goddard gifted to me which my brother still carries to this day.

And after buying the pricier Spydercos I've found that I really do like the frn ones better. Sometimes less is more! ☺

A plain edge Delica 4 is always a winner, and sage advice from the man himself. I've essentially run the full gamut only to discover the Delica, Stretch and PM2 just might be my favorites. Funny how it all circles back to where I first began.

I would absolutely reccomend a Para 2 and a Delica for the first two Spydercos. Possibly the best bang for your buck in the whole lineup.

While a vg10 Delica 4 and s30v are really the "ones" to get. You could go all out and snag the s110v para and hap40 Delica. If you wanted to be all fancy.

Then you would still have 100 bucks to buy a nice dinner, or a bunch of steaks to cut up with your new blades.
