Woohoo! It's a Calypso Jr. Lightweight and it's beautiful. I'm not a knife connoisseur, I know next to nothing about 'em, but I do think I like this one. And I have this impulse to run all over the house looking for things that I can cut. Is this normal post-spyderco behavior? Anyway, I do believe I'm hooked. Sorry for this mess of randomness, but I'm so excited. I'm acting like a giddy schoolgirl *giggle*.

Life as you know it is officially over...you will begin to accumulate more and more Spyderco at an ever increasing rate, the harmless giggle of the schoolgirl replaced by the hideous howling of the Spyderco Succubus.
Welcome!!!

Ren,

Welcome to the Spyderclub. Ferret is right, however. You think you just need one knife...until of course you begin to get uncontrollable urges to own a Military. Or a Wegner. Or a Native. Or... well, you get the picture.

See my post entitled "Spydercos vs. Heroin ?" http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum52/HTML/000171.html to see exactly what you've gotten yourself into.

Welcome fellow Spyderco nut!

The Calypso Jr LTWT is a superb first choice - its my favorite production carry knife since its ambidexterous, tip DOWN carry, and the VG-10 is great stuff!

Be warned this WON'T be your last Spyderco - the 'HOLE' is addicting!

May I suggest a Spyderco Sharpmaker 204 sharpening system for 90% of your sharpening needs.

Ahhhh...one brand new Spyderco. I remember about 8 years ago when I bought my first Spyderco. Still carry it today.(Along with 2 others that are carried daily) Now I have a few(6 I think), my wife has one, my parents both carry one, my brothers all have one, and I've spread the good word of Spyderco to who knows how many people. Every one needs a Spyderco.

Good luck with your new knife, and an excellent choice. Now all ya need is the full size Calypso to make a set.

makes me feel gooood!

Welcome, Ren!

You are now a connoisseur! Now that you've gone arachnid, you'll be surprised at how hard it will be for any other knives to satisfy.

Hmmm, other knives. My dad spotted the Calypso last night and he seemed to like it until he asked me what it cost. Then his attitude changed and he said that my brothers old generic lockback knife out in the shed would work just as well. Or that a $20 something from WalMart would suffice. Think I should let him borrow it so that he can figure out the difference for himself?

My boyfriend on the other hand loves it. One handed opening is really convenient and it cuts through hay bale strings and leather ties like its nothing. I even used it to trim part of a horses mane. I may have to get him one of his own before he commandeers mine.

I've never really liked spiders, but I think I have a new appreciation for them now

Well it is true that a Wal Mart knife will cut for awhile. But do you want a cheap knife, or an excellent knife. I suppose your Dad drives a Yugo cause it will suffice.

Oh well. You spread the good word of Spyderco to those who are willing to receive it. Maybe he needs one for Father's day.

Ah, another has joined the clutch. Or maybe swarm. Well, whatever you'd call a group of spiders. And also from Maryland to boot!

I've recently started buying and giving out Spydercos as gifts to friends (as in classmate friends, not BF members that I know are gonna respond to this with messages like "Hey buddy. I've had my eye on a particular Spydie and my birthday is just around the corner . . ."

) and those that have handled cheap knives before can quickly tell the difference.

In the long run, it'll be cheaper to have gone with a Spyderco than a cheapie that would break and need replacement. Of course, this discounts the effects of the addition you'll develop . . .
