My first Spyderco arrived today, a D'Allara drop point folder with combo edge.

This is a fine knife, smooth opening and sharp, and will have a place in my EDC rotation for sure. The thumbhole is surprisingly easy to use and provides precise manual opening. I especially like the ball lock, and would probably buy additional Spydercos just for that. Unfortunately as far as I know the only other Spyderco it appeared on was the DoDo.

I own a large number of Kershaws (which I love) and a few Gerbers (not bad), so this Spydie is a nice counterpoint. I'm somewhat spoiled by SpeedSafe and flippers, so it's nice to have a knife that requires a little more coordination to open.

The only ones left for me to try of the big 5 production manufacturers are Benchmade and Buck, and I'll have to get at least one each of theirs eventually...just too many knives, and too little time...:D

Ray :)

(This is posted in General Knife Discussion as opposed to the Spyderco forum because I feel it's of general interest...posting it in the Spyderco forum would be like preaching to the choir. ;))

Congratulations on your new Spydie. - - I got my first about 7 years ago, a credit card sized folder called the SpyderCard thats out of production. I recently have been buying several of the folders including Centofante IVs, a Mini Manix, and a Salt I. I've been very impressed by the quality. I've heard great things about the D'Allara - enjoy your new knife. And check out the Spyderco forum. All the best, - -

I bought and still own one of the original Spyderco Police Models back in 1984, great knives and since I have bought quite a few other Spydercos as well including one of the original Spurs, a Delica, an Endura, a Cricket and a couple of others I don't remember at the moment. For the Benchmade, my personal favorite is the Boguszewski Spike, a classic knife indeed. You may have to look a bit to find one but well worth the search.

congrats on the D'allara
if you like the pivotsmoothness of the Drop Point, you might also dig a ss ATR ;)

My first was an ss se Harpy. It sparked what will be a life-long fascination with bladed weaponry. I was reading Hannibal when it was referenced and decided to look it up.. My paychecques have suffered ever since. Second was an all stainless Police and as far as folders go its a favorite.. Ive owned 10 or so since, and there is nothing I am more comfortable with. In all honesty I could open and close it in my sleep almost as fast as the average person can open a waved folder of similar size and weight. I don't intend that to sound boisterous. Enjoy your Spydie.
