I just got my first Spyderco a delica 4. I love everything about the knife other than the fact that I can't flick it open. Can some one describe the proper flicking method? Thanks

Congrats! The Delica is a great knife. To flick, put the tip of your thumb nail in the spyder hole and flick up toward the top of the handle.

Use a slow and controlled motion while holding the knife firmly. This will prevent a Spyderbite.

I don't like flicking, especially with the thumb hole. But once your knife wears in a bit, it'll be smoother and easier to do.

congrats on your first Spyderco, its my favorite company and they make exceptional knives. I'm starting to collect them, and have a few already.

Is there anyway to open it fast without flicking?

Opening it normally is just as fast as flicking it for me. Your thumb has to go up to flick it, just the same as to open in regularly anyway. I can do them both with the same speed; the only difference is that opening it normally is more reliable lol

i suggest you learn to 'index' your thumb nail securely before flicking.now i've done this for years & it's easy now. however i remember the 1st thumbstud on an al mar i tried to flick open many years back. the clerk said he would get me a bandaid & i replied bring plenty of paper towels since a bandaid would be useless.

Thanks guys I can flick open the knife now but I was watching some videos about it on youtube and mine is no where as smooth.

In my video I am using the Tenacious to demonstrate. The Delica 4 is a Lock Back and has much more closed retention so it's going to be harder to flick vs a liner lock.

Great knife. Spyderco are awesome knives and with practice the flicking becomes easier once the knife is broke in a bit.
