I am looking to get my first spyderco. Just want to see what you guys think. My current knives are all 3" blades and shorter for edc and I want to go a little bigger with the spyderco. I want something a little bigger for camping trips and around the wood shop and stuff. I am debating between the paramilitary or the manix 2. Any comments on one over the other? Thanks.

All I know is what I read on the specs and I have the Manix 2 in a cart. Looks great to me. Good luck.

For a bigger knife with an intended use of camping trips and wood shop stuff I'd go with a fixed blade.

Camping and wood shop? - I think i fixed blade would be better for that.
But other than that, the enduras are great.

I have only recently begun to accumulate some Spydercos myself- I like the Native a lot- while it's no larger than the Delica it's WAY more robust- it would make a good woods knife, if a bit on the short side. From what I've seen and read I'd like the Manix and the Paramilitary both- but the model I just ordered last night is the Endura 4 with foliage green handle and the full SpyderEdge(serrated) blade......it's large-ish yet still lightweight and seems to be very strong- I got the SpyderEdge because if you need a blade that will seriously cut through damn near anything it's the way to go IMO. The Endura is considerably less expensive than either the Manix or Paramilitary, for sure. if you want to go outside the box a little, I've heard that the Pacific Salt makes a fine EDC knife(it DOES come in black as well as in Screaming Yellow) and I personally like the Remote Release a lot- it's a little on the ugly side but with its little hook it can hang on a belt loop, on a cord around your neck.....very handy! I hope this helps. Your first Spydie won't be your last, I'm sure!

If you had to have a Spyderco then it is a toss up between the ParaMilitary and Manix2. I really love both knives but if I were you I would wait for the ParaMilitary2 due out soon.

Manix 2 is a SOLID knife, full of jimping, only thing i got against it is it is a bit short for my taste, and it is hollow ground

never had a paramilitary, but if you can get the foliage green FFG G10 endura, it is my favorite spyderco of the ones i own

btw, keep in mind that manix 2 is tip up only, and paramilitary (and military) is tip down only

and endura is all 4 points

really??
is that true for the military too??

only reason why i never jumped on that bandwagon..

My first Spyderco was the Paramilitary, I also have the CTS-XHP and S30V Manix 2 springs, Love all three knives, the para and manix are my favorite 3 folders I have and top 2 favorite current spyderco models. In hand the Manix feels a little sturdier because of the stouter liners, thicker blade profile and weight. Although the compression lock is probably my favorite lock out there even over the AXIS and CBBL lock of benchmade and on the Manix. Although those are my next favorites. Although the blade of the manix isn't much longer than the para it seems quite a bit bigger just because of the shape probably. The para is lighter and easier to EDC and the FFG will be a better slicer than the Saber grind and has MY favorite lock (some don't like it at all). The manix is heavier and sturdier feeling with my second favorite lock, thicker blade stock, all the way through the tip, and a bigger overall blade, I think I like the blade shape a little better as well. Good luck with your choice, both are excellent, the para2 as already mentioned looks extremely promising as well.

both are awesome, I own a para and it is probably the best constructed knife I own. At first it looks simple and plain, then when you actually hold it and open/close it, you appreciate the quality of the materials and the perfect ergonomics of it. You can't go wrong with either, and like others said the ffg enduras are great. I also own a centofante 3 which is a fantastic and cheaper model too.. another great starting point which is classy.

+1 The manix 2 is a tank.... If it was the size of the military I think it would be about perfect:thumbup:

Manix 2 is IMO the better of the two choices it has better ergos, and feels more solid than the para (which is incredible as the para feels extremely solid)
lesser steel and some people dont lke the hollow saber grind but that dosent make a difference to me. but whichever you choose you will probably not be disappointed.
