Yahoo .. My first Spydie arrived today. Its a Native III with VG10 blade.

My first impressions are - I love it. It looks far better in person than in pictures. The blade is about perfect in size and the action is smooth as silk. It is also scary sharp right out of the box. The frn handle fits my hand like a glove and just feels good, like it was meant to be there. I am impressed, especially considering the price tag. The only thing I need to get used to is the tip up carry.

It will join my CRKT and Kershaw Blur for edc and I suspect it will become my primary knife.

If first impressions mean anything, this definitely will not be my last Spyderco knife.

It's amazing how spydies look even better in the flesh. Congrats and keep the checkbook handy. It won't be your last!

Good choice - it's my favorite so far of the Native series.

It's a real beefy knife for only 3"... feels a lot bigger in the hand thanks to the big choil.

Congrats on your first Spyderco knife. Maybe the Military or Para next? :D

That was my first as well. Still love it. The only small issue I've had with it is that if it needs lubrication it needs it bad! There's no middle ground between being the smoothest knife I own and it being my toughest to open. But a little mineral oil every now and then keeps it running fine.

For your next purchase consider the Salt models or a Golden made knife. My SE yellow Pacific Salt is probably my favorite knife right now and I'm trying to decide on which Military I want to go with it.

Just a some advice based on my own experience. Mineral oil is a great lubricant for the blade itself. This is mainly due to it being non-toxic and thus, allowing a knife to be used with food.

If you want to lubricate moving parts/joints of a knife, then you should consider a lubricant that thins out better than mineral oil. You may want to try 3-in-1 oil (cheap and widely available) or Tuf Glide (a more expensive but higher-end lubricating agent).

Thanks everyone .. It really is a sweet knife. Showed it to a couple knife friendly guys at work today and they were impressed as well.

Now as far as the next Spydie .. I am already starting to drool over both the Manix 2 and the CF Sage. This is not a good sign .. or is it? :)

Oh, you're hooked for sure. :) Good choices on your next purchase. I've yet to pickup a 154CM Manix 2 but it's on the list. The CF Sage is my current EDC. Enjoy the Native III, it's a great knife and a bargain to boot.

I would put odds 100 to 1 that is won't be your last Spydie. This time next year, you'll have at least 4.

That's an excellent sign! Welcome to the family of Spyderholics. :D:thumbup:

I think it will just take a bit of time to get used to the tip up .. it's not too bad at all so far.

However I am still a little cautious as I have in the past had a Pro-Tec auto open while tip up, in my back pocket. Needless to say I was not fully awake when I realized it. There were a lot of bandaid's involved in that one.

The Native is a much different story compared to the Pro-Tec so I think it will just be a matter of getting comfortable with it in the coming weeks.

Either way .. Lovin' the Native.
