Alrighty, I've got my O1, my files, my saw blades, clamps, and thanks to Hurricane Sandy I'll have time this weekend to start working on my 1st handmade blade. I think it's time to put all that reading and youtube video watching to work.

Here's the design i've laid out. It's going to be about 6" overall length using 1/8" o1. Planning on leaving it naked or wrapping it in hollowed paracord.

If i can get these to turn out decent i have a slab of 1/4" that I'm going to use for this big boy:

Hope it's as easy to make IRL as it was in photoshop :D.

What do guys think?

I think it looks great! I think you got mixed up in the last part, making it in photoshop is the hard part ;) don't forget pics when you finish!

Ok, I'm not sure what I've done, but I love the look. After getting my blades to shape, hardening them, and tempering them, I tried sharpening, but the blade was still way to hard. I decided to temper the blades for a 2nd time (1hr @450) and got this bright blue blade with red and straw colors.

Any idea what I've done here? It's O1 steel.

Here's what I've got. I plan on leaving them with the rough blue look. The one on the counter top will shave hair off your arm, but the other one needs a bit more work on the bevel; it's too steep as it is. These 2 were pretty experimental so I figure out the process. How'd I do?

The next one I make I'm going to take my time and make sure it comes out clean.
