Hey guys,

Currently, my folding knife collection is basically all CRK. I traded for my first Strider and it will be delivered tomorrow. What should I expect?

Thanks!

If you get one that has zero blade play, not too sticky of a lock then you'll probably at least think it's a good knife. I have been fortunate that both my DGG & CC have been spot on. The F&F is superb which isn't something you hear all the time. I think Strider has some of the best stonewashed finishes period. You'll either really like the big 'ol choil or it won't jive with you at all.

Looking forward to hearing about it.

This is a excellent answer. When I had my sng I read somewhere on this forum of people having sticky lock and late lock up, and strider would anadized the lock tang and fix it or something like that. It was not my experience. They refused to communicate with me and would not fix the sticky lock. That's after opening it thousands of times. They sharpened the blade and sent it back.

And there's a cool kind of attitude that comes with a strider, $400 knife, if there's problems, suck it, be a man. No ones perfect. Well I hope yours is flawless. I dumped my for $150 I'm lucky I got that for it.

That's my experience with a sng and strider so far.

My 2 SnGs are some of the best knives I have handled...

You can expect to post things about it on BF, and get answers as varied as the knife world in general. :) Hahaha.

In my experience, Strider knives are THE single most polarizing brand of knives in the world. People either love them or hate them. I'm serious about that. No Strider thread will go more than 10 posts without one person loving them, and another person telling you they are the biggest pos knife they have ever owned. It's crazy.

From my personal experience: the 3 that I have had have been excellent. I feel like they come with too obtuse of an edge from the factory. I know this type of edge is more durable, and goes more in line with the "Tactical Pry Bar" mentality. For me, I re-profile mine down to a more appropriate 20dps edge angle. I find that to be a very durable, hard use edge angle that will still cut and slice well. I have also had them, when very new, to have sticky locks. The Ti lock bar tends to gall on the steel blade, and can be quite a chore to unlock. I take a pencil and color the lock up area of the blade with the pencil tip (graphite) for about the first 300-500 flips. This usually gives a very smooth, quality lock up once worked in.

Overall I like the knives quite a bit. They use hood steels, have very solid locks, and are generally very tough. As tough as a folder needs to be. I expect with some reasonable care, and some patience, you'll have a great knife to enjoy for a very long time.

I had a PD#1 Coyote Brown SnG with black blade awhile back.

Pros: very comfortable, very cool looking design, awesome blade shape, fun to "flick" open in a variety of fashions, high end steel.

Cons: sticky lock that eventually wore in an was only intermittently sticky, off-center blade, too thick of am angle on the edge, developed side-to-side play within a few weeks--I didn't own the tool to adjust it so unsure if it could have easily been remedied.

On the customer service: they replied quickly to one email and answered my inquiry. They didn't reply to the two follow-up emails at all. I realize they offer a pretty bullet proof warranty, but only responding to 33% of my emails wasn't exactly confidence inspiring.

Ultimately, I traded it, but I can see myself trying another one in the future.

Since you asked:

You said your folder collection is all CRK. If you like everything about CRK, you probably won't like the SNG. Simple as that.

I've had a lot of CRK and a lot of Striders. CRK is executive style; Strider is tactical style. I've enjoyed them both. I've had "better than excellent" customer service from Strider...far above the call of duty...from them. My customer service from CRK is also great; without reproach. CRK is also a lot better in answering your emails than is Strider, but when Strider is done fixing, renewing, redoing, resharpening your knife (for ZERO charge), they ship it back to you. Yes, they do.

In my experience, I have had few issues with my SnGs and Strider had always gone above and beyond in the warranty and customer service department. As an example, I dropped my SnG onto concrete from a rooftop, and it was messed up to the point where it wasn't useable. I sent it in to Strider and they sent it back as good as new. Now that is a warranty!

When I sent mine in with 3 problems I had to send a check for $25 for a resharpen along with a detailed letter with these 3 problems stated at the top and the bottom with my e mail address, and cell number included.

My experience with an SnG Lego. EDC'd one for a couple of months....

Excellent knife, especially the latest Gen.
No issues with build quality.

Heavy, but carries better than you would thing.

Ergo's are good, there are hot spots, but nothing horrid.

What I didn't like, and ultimately led me to sell it was the choil.

I hated cutting cardboard with it, you really had to pay attention to where the blade was at, or the choil would catch on the cardboard and just stop the blade.

I guess I expected too much from the knife, it has a purpose (Geat chopper, you can get a lot of weight behind the blade) just not what I needed in an EDC.

Nope, not a great cadrboard cutter just like any knife that has a cutout (ie Leafstorm, etc..) What it does do well is hard use tasks just like it was intended. When I built my deck I used an SnG to notch out a dozen weather treated 2x10s. It did a fantastic job and felt like a fixed blade in doing so. I will do things with an SnG that I dare not with my Sebenzas or Spydies. No knock on those knives at all because they are slicers and slice well they do! The SnG is more in the task category of a Hinderer. I do re-profile mine so they slice as good as I can get them too. As goofy as they may appear, the ergos are pretty darn good.

Love them, I've got both the SnG and SMF models. I daily carry a Sebenza and a Strider. Like others, the ergos fit well in the hand, I find I can choke up on the blade without fear of getting cut. I haven't had any rock lock issues, blade play issues, some stick issues that is acceptable. The CC SnG has a smoother feel over the lego. I prefer the lego and the blade with a 3/4 grind.

Post a pic when you get it and let us know if it's for you :)

My CRK knives are my favorites, but I like my Striders too. Luckily I can own both and enjoy each for what they can do.

Nah.
I like my Umnumzaan.
I like my SmF and SnG.

To the OP, you will likely find that the Strider seems a lot like a knife, due to the fact that it is a knife. ;)

The Strider folder design is one one the best ever and you get a fantastic HT.
Your Strider is a tool. Use it.

You'll find a well made knife, with surprisingly good ergos, with a fantastic stonewashed finish. They are work horse knifes but might not have the finesse that the CRK does and that's okay, it wasn't meant too.

I own both Stiders and CRK and I find both fantastic and functional knives.

I look forward to your review and pictures.

Nah, they co-exist rather well.

Hey guys, I got my DGG SNG yesterday. To be completely honest, the quality was not what I was expectng. I've heard them be compared to Zero Tolerance and I feel that is very accurate. However, I absolutely love the knife though. I especially like the looks, choil, good jimping, dgg pattern, and the weight. This one is very light - surprisingly light. But it still feels fairly substantial. Mine has some lock rock but I think the blade tang and lockbar just needs to settle in. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the thick grind behind the edge. I know it adds strength however. I'll be getting another SNG Lego and an SMF in the future for sure

Cool. ^ I think you will come to prefer the Lego.
Do NOT sell your SnG's.
