Ahh . . . after several weekends of buying and destroying production knives, I have FINALLY modified one to my liking. Cosmetic issues need to be worked on, but functionally it's a success, at last. The Kershaw ENERG 2 (#1745, bigger one) has always been a great knife, but I didn't like the handle scales or the fact that to use it around sheeple I still had to snap the blade out. Plus I really like the Wave function. So, I replaced the scales with green canvas micarta, and modified the blade so it can be opened (1) with the pseunetic flipper device (2) by wave (3) manually using the wave as a thumbstud/thumbhole. I also changed the choil area just for aesthetic reasons. "It's alive! Mwaugh-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah!"

Wow. That actually looks really good.

A lot of wave conversions are a little iffy...but this looks nice.

I like the micarta too!

Very nice! That's a creative way to grind a wave in, looks good, very subtle. And then there's the scales. Green canvas micarta, beautiful. :D

That looks good. I've modified many knives and stood back and said "why did you do that?" then dump them in a big box never to see the light of day again. Good looking mod fishface!

thanks for the comments guys! Wwells20 - I know what you're saying all too well. . . .
I will admit that using the wave nub as a thumbstud/thumbhole opener is a little hard on the thumb b/c it's small and pointy, but really I only wanted that option for public places (primarily the post office - where I seem to be cutting a lot of tape when trading/selling knives, and using a flipper kind of freaks the tellers out). The rest of the time I use the wave to open, which works like a charm - a small one will do, just need to make sure there aren't any really sharp edges or it will eat pants pockets in a flash!

I have certainly learned a lot by getting this one right - there's more to handle scales, especially, than one might think. Right now I'm working on new scales for a Camillus Heat. Routering out recesses in handle scales to accommodate liners, etc, is a HUGE PITA!

 You waved a Kershaw, wow I don't believe even Charlie Mike has Waved a Kershaw yet. :D  Looks great, I love the looks of the handle scales.

There goes the neighborhood...

 Good job!

Also like how you left the butt of the liners exposed. Skull crusher glass breaker kinda thing. You should tie a lanyard, they help "index" the knife when you wave it.

BTW, the G10 Police I waved a couple months ago is going to Reese at the end of the month to be double edged and get a lanyard hole in the butt.
