Hello all!

I've been lurking here for quite a bit, then joined, and kept lurking. However I just need to be able to tell SOMEONE, because my wife simply doesn't care lol. I finally succeeded in sharpening my Kershaw chive! Here's the deal..

I have been into knives for a long time, I'm a hunter and a fisherman. For the most part I own knives by buck, but recently have started digging the assisted opening function of certain Kershaw knives and bought a leek, blur and chive.

I've always sent my knives out to be sharpened because I simply couldn't do it. I mean years of trying on and off, I simply cannot hold an angle. I have ALOT of different stones, diamond, natural, water stones, all different grades. Can't use any of em. I tried the pull through's, before learning how bad they can be for the blade on the forums, and they didn't garner much better results.

I didn't want to spend the money on a sharp maker to just fail yet again, and while at Walmart found a cheap Smith's system. I'm sure most people know of it, 2 stone precision sharpening system. I know a lot of pro's on here might say its crap, but for the first time in my life I've sharpened my own knife and its just an amazing feeling! It pops hairs, it pushes paper, its edge isn't just sharp but it's 'polished'! Its pretty and shiny too!

This may sound stupid to some, but I know you guys will get it... I cut myself on it feeling the edge. It was the sweetest dang feeling in the world.

I'm tickled pink! Ha!

First off, welcome! And congrats on the sharpening!! It took me a long time and a lot of frustration to get my first decent edge. Like you, my wife gets a glazed over look when I talk about knives too much, that is why I go here to have knifey conversations:)

kudos on the edge!
My wife is the same way, it's all babies on her mind! I just got into knives this past year and sharpening took quite a while to get the hang of.

Thanks guys :-D I really wish I could sharpen freehand, I'm just not sure it's in the cards for me. At least now I can get a good edge on my blades rather than having to wait for them to come back in the mail lol. I'll keep trying freehand though, maybe I'll figure it out eventually!

My wife wants no part of any knife conversation. She automatically reverts to the "uh huh, yup, right.." responses as soon as I get started. Like talking to a wall. Start talking about the kids though.. Or 20 kids or however many they have by now and counting TV show and she's all ears.

I didn't really get nice edges until I got the Edge Pro Apex and could "control" my angles easily.
One of the nicer things about the EDGE PRO is that it allows you to easily re-profile thick blades so that they will actually slice.
p.s. Wives have their own thing; I have NO idea what it is.
