Hello, everyone. I'm new to the Swamp. I just purchased my first Swamp Rat off of the Exchange, and I absolutely love it. It's an M9 in Desert Sage with Black/Red G10 handle scales. Here it is when I first received it earlier today. It must have been a safe queen, because it looked brand new.

I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that it has a full-height flat grind. I thought all of the coated M9s were saber ground. Can anyone comment on this? Was this perhaps a special offering?

I was able to spend a little bit of time with it in the woods this evening. I really like the way it feels in hand and how it handles. It has great balance and is very lively feeling. I look forward to using it again this weekend when I have more time.

This is an awesome blade. I have a feeling it won't be my last Swamp Rat.

Full flat grind? It's fake!!!!
Joking man, what a great find - that should be one hell of a knife! Enjoy, and post more pics if you can.

Great way to get introduced to Swamp Rat knives!

M9 was my second Rat.

I believe it is probably from one of the shows a while back, that would explain the FFG and red/black G10. It also could have been ordered from Custom Shop like that.

Have heaps of fun using it... and get ready for Rat infestation, they tend to find others for company... ;)

I'm jealous. ;) I've been chasing down an M9 for years. Congratulations on a great first Swamp Rat!

The M9 is a great Rat to have. Let alone your first Rat. Use it well and beat on that thing!

That is one of the finest looking M9's I've seen, congratulations man!

Elof may have it pegged as a show or ganza offering. I've not seen a coated FFG model before, however I do know that Swamprat will accept them for re-coating or re-scaling. It is possible that it started life as an LE model, those are FFG, and was later given a coating and new handles. Anyway, awesome score, that thing is beautiful.

Thanks, that makes sense. It doesn't say "Custom Shop" on it, so I'm thinking it's probably from one of the shows. But then again, I don't know if Swamp Rat identifies their Custom Shop knives with a special label. I'm just curious about all of this, which is the only reason I ask. What matters most to me is that I got an awesome blade that looks gorgeous too!

Great Score!!!!! Congrats!!!!!
Nice to see you giving her some lovin' too! ;)

Welcome to the madness! Run away while you still can! :p That M9 is one helluva good way to join the fray!!! :D

To answer your question, yes, the SR Custom Shop does have a different logo:

(My favorite SR C/S piece)

However, having said that, I don't think the SR Custom Shop "officially" existed back then, so it might still be a C/S piece. (and I could also be wrong about that...)

Thanks for the information. And thanks for sharing the picture. That is a sweet blade!

It looks great man. SR-101 is good stuff. If you like that, an RMD is in order. Please send another to me!!

Take care!!

I've noticed that the Busse and Swamp Rat custom shops are consistent with their logos. I've had some come from the custom shops with standard logos and some that simply had a liner added that got the custom shop logo.

I've seen a few M9 LEs get coated. I wouldn't dismiss that as a possibility.

Beautiful knife you have there Spyder.
