I absolutely know nothing worth mentioning about swords and their value, authenticity, reputable dealers/makers etc... but would like to purchase at least one sword that won't fall apart and could be used for demonstration purposes of its ability. I'm leaning towards a smaller tanto but wouldn't say I'm stuck on its style as much as I am stuck on something between 12"-25" blade length in general.

The only site I can find that shows demonstration videos is cold steel and I wouldn't trust others since I am ignorant to swords in general. I'm wanting a Japenese piece to display mainly and if it's not Japanese made I'd like it to accurately represent one. I'd rather have a true Japanese piece but it's age doesn't matter to me as long as it's built to use and is sharp. I'd hate to think what kind of hack job I would put on such a large blade if it didn't arrive sharp.

Any and all help steering me to a reputable site or brands would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your time!

I think you want a Wakizashi not a tanto. For production higher end is Bugei:

For more modest budgets:

Cas Iberia stuff

I would have said Kris Cutlery for the lower end but they don't seem to have a wakizashi at the moment. Weird.

Whats your budget and intended use outside of display? That will matter quite a bit. Actual Japanese blades are likely to be in the several thousands of dollars, I'd expect. Genuine nihonto command quite a premium.

No budget honestly. I'm not trying to spend thousands for something that I'm not educated enough about to truly appreciate its history and ability. I could see myself spending $1500-2000 on something that could slice stuff with a swing and had fit finish worthy of displaying. It wouldn't get much use at all. Maybe a hand full of times of trying to slice something like watermelon, pumpkin, pineapple, etc...
