TYPO IN THE TITLE! MODS PLEASE CHANGE THAT :D

So last night I was looking at flashlights on the BAYing-E, and noticed I have accumulated 40 bucks worth of rewards cash this quarter! I took the opportunity to jump on a knife I've been watching, as the 40 buck coupon took care of some of my hesitation concerning the price of a knife brand I'm inexperienced with. This will be my first and only quality folder ever. I currently ONLY own fixed blades. I was just dying to see what all the fuss was about with Spyderco ;)

Calypso Sprint Run C54GPBN
pic is for reference, not of my actual knife as it's in the mail still.

I hate to say it but you might be getting a fake. That picture was stolen from GPKnives.com The bay is horrible about selling fake knives. If you paid substantially less than what GP is asking that is a good indication its fake. Maybe not, post actual pictures when it comes in. Good luck.

nccole is correct. I paid $180 for my Calypso. It's a wonderful knife, but unless someone took a soldering iron and a hammer to it, there's no way in hell anyonewwould sell one for $40.

yea that does sound like a super shady deal, hope we are wrong and it works out for you tho!

I don't necessarily think he was saying he paid $40 for it, it read to me like he used the $40 reward he had to offset some of the [high] cost of the knife since it was his first spyderco and first folder on top of that. The unknown was making him weary of spending the ~$180 so his $40 discount brought the price down to a manageable level.

Just how I took it, maybe I'm wrong, either way I sure hope its not a fake, I would hate for anyone's first experience with spyderco not be a positive one.

that is how I read it too.

I agree with Cereal killer with how he paid for it reads.

I think you will enjoy your Spyderco, they seem to be one of the most common gateway knives because they have more budget minded models like the Tenacious all he way to higher end sprint run models of the Spyderco Southard.

I hope you're right, the Calypso is an amazing knife and a wonderful introduction to Spyderco. Like the Stretch, Mr. Glesser designed it for himself as an EDC, and is a modern folder with modern advancements, yet is also very classy, gentlemanly, and just plain gorgeous. More importantly, it performs with excellence, providing superior ergonomics, awesome blade geometry, a reliable and strong lock, a great clip...it's a perfect combination of function and aesthetics. The knife sacrifices neither and gets top scores for both in my book. And the finish...oh dear God, that lush satin finish...it's the most beautiful finish I have ever seen on a knife. Photographs cannot do it justice, it must be experienced in person.

C'mon, of course it's a fake, it's a Syperco.

Kidding. :D
Enjoy your new Calypso. It's on my short list as well.

You are correct. It came from a reputable seller with 100% feedback. I paid 150 bucks before my ebay bucks discount, a good deal but not suspicious IMO. I don't buy unless i trust the seller. I've seen enough about fake spyderco's on this forum and I definitely know better.

I just did a quick google search for a picture, that isn't the one from the knife listing I bought.

Spyderco never uses Philips or flat head screws. Always hex or torx. So that's an easy giveaway. Just an FYI. Hopefully you get a real one and enjoy it :)

I don't think they ever used flat-heads but they defiantly do use Philips heads for some clip screws.

Armedokie I'm very jealous of your beautiful knife, I especially love the swedge running all the way up the spine. I think after Christmas when I can resume buying knives I will try to find a calypso and/or just pick up a caly3.5 next. Please be sure to share photos of your actual knife when it arrives soon with your opinion, I think you will wonder why it took so long to convert.

Thanks! I will definitely do that

The picture is of a 100% real Calypso. It is a sprint run, and as such is actually an older model that was re-introduced with a new scale color. They use to use Phillips screws more often. My concern is how much trust can you put into someone that steals pictures of knives to sell said knife. Number one it is lazy, but it makes one wonder if they even have said knife in their possession because if they did why not take some shots of the knife and post those.

I think we dont know the whole story, I sell stuff on the bay and even tho I have a pretty decent point-n-shoot I don't have a computer, I do all my internetting from my iphone, quite often when I have an item that is 100% new in all factory packaging I will use a "stock photo", often "borrowed" from google images. Is it right to "borrow" the image, probabily not. I don't know about this seller but I always disclose the image is a "stock photo" and offer to email actual [tho lower, cell phone quality] pics if a perspective buyer wishes.

My point being just because the image isn't the sellers, the OP said the seller had good rep and he trusts the guy, before we go putting doubts in his head lets just wait another couple days and we can see for ourselves when the OP posts his personally taken pics.

Ive never had a knife that locks up this tight. And the liners toward the back fit so tight they look like one solid piece.

Your pictures aren't working, but it sounds like it worked out good. Congrats man.
