So it has been some time since I have bought a Spyderco, particularly one that was made in Taichung. I have to admit, this one really caught my eye with the brass and textured carbon fiber look. May even have to take a look at the Hungarian now. :P

Congrats!

The Bowie was the 1st of the Ethnic Series that I bought.

The Hungarian is nice too but the Pattada (which was not made in Taichung) is my favorite among them. The only other Ethnic Series knife that I'm still looking to buy is the Kris (another non-Taichung made knife).

Very nice! I've been thinking about buying the Bowie for about three days now.

I'm also looking for a Kris sgt. Such a beautiful piece.

I was eyeing the Hungarian next to it. It may have to be a pickup on my next pass to the shop.

I liked the Kris but it was a bit too out there for me. Still a cool blade to have for sure though.

I love the Schempp Bowie! I’ve carried mine a ton. It’s super slicey and a great EDC.

IMO the Hungarian is even nicer. Not quite as slicey, but dang the fit & finish is good. Spyderco’s polished G-10 is sooo sexy...and XHP is amazing.

I love ‘em both...but Hungarian FTW.

I kinda regret not grabbing a Pattada, but such is life.

I hope Spyderco keeps the Ethnic series alive.

Love the Ethnic series, and the Hungarian has some of the most unexpectedly great ergos of almost any Spyderco!

Nice! Who did the scales on the top Bowie? What material is that? It looks really good.

I quite like the Schempp Bowie, but would rather something other than the stock CF scales. If I'm picky, I'd like nickel silver or Ti bolsters over the brass too.

I have a friend who's a machinist and he clipped the top quillion for me...the handles are ironwood. Thank you, it's a treasure for me for sure!:D:thumbsup:

It's kinda got the old Buck 110 vibe going for me and makes me nostalgic for my childhood. :)

What are the other ethnic series folders?

Coincidentally, I just got the Hungarian. It is a lovely looking knife, albeit, a bit more hefty than the Bowie.

Mike Janich provides a complete list as of March 2018 of the Ethnic Series knives in his pist at the end of pg 1 of this thread:

At last count, I have 15 of them

Ah, I am slacking then. I only have 4 of them total. While I like the ones I have, I am not too much a fan of the other in the series with a possible exception of the Navaja.

Some of the Ethnic Series knives are odd and not very practical designs. So, they are not for everyone.

The ones that I have that I like most are the Pattada (as previously mentioned), the Lum Tanto Folder, Hungarian and Karahawk.

I also have a Navaja which is a unique Schempp designed knife but FYI the racheting mechanism is prone to failure and, since its discontinued, I do not know if Spyderco would be willing or able to fix it. Mine just sits in the safe w/the many other knives that I have collected but never carry
