First thoughts on the Zog Nit

Hi all:

I just received the Zog Nit, a small knife from Koyote. I wanted to share a few thoughts. There are pictures on the Koyote website.

This knife, which resembles nothing so much as a small Sgian Dubh is, quite simply, fantastic. I believe that I will carry this one a lot. Christof stated on his website that he was trying to hit a balance for a knife to be small and discrete while still maintaining solid ergonomics--especially in scaling down the handle. He succeeded on all counts. I wear XL gloves, but this knife really works in my hand--despite being small. This is especially important with a knife with a sharpened back edge, of course, because you need to be really careful where your thumb goes.

I think that what I find most striking about this knife is the grinds. They are outstanding. I have high expectations in a custom knife when it comes to a really well ground blade and this knife is nothing short of beautiful.

The sheath is also very nicely made--but I know that people expect this with Koyote. Still, worth mentioning.

I have a handful of custom fixed blade knives, but this one is something different--though I can't quite put my finger on what.

I am guessing that I must have one of the very first of these, or this group would have been talking about this knife.

You have the first sold one, second one made.

I have orders for a pair of single edged (legal issues) variants now, too.

I'm really glad you like it :D

A thing of beauty. I don't generally care for double edged blades, but this is sweet. Still digging my LBK, by the way...

What kind of pocket clip do you suggest to carry this in a pocket? The sheath obviously lends itself to a pocket clip / boot clip. The sheath fits nicely in a pocket...

you can probably put any standard large pocket clip right through the horizontal strap and have it work well. Tandy, midwest knifemaker, and most leather supply stores- even michael's should have them.

Easy enough for us to make one on a thinner leather strap that would mount on the sheath through the strap, also.
