In a couple of days the annual shot show will be held in Las Vegas. This is where most of the new innovations and products for the Cutlery field are introduced. This year there will be a fledgling cutlery company showing there first offerings. This will be the first time knives from the Canal Street Cutlery company (Ellenville New York)will be offering the first of a new line of AMERICAN made knives. It is only by subjecting myself to the greatest jeopardy and personal risk ( aw heck really just lucky) that I have procurred the first pictures and specs of several of these new releases. This is the very first time that these pictures or any pictures of any of this new companies line of knives have ever been offered or seen by the public. It should be again be noted that these are presently not for sale to the public at this time. In fact the knives in the pics are prototypes to be shown to the buyers for the first time in Las Vegas. So enjoy the pics. If you have an interest in these releases or future releases the address is on the pic of the there new label ( which I also attached.). I have been told that some reservations will be taken for those wishing to get a particular number on future engraved issues. These as I understand it will all be small issues with this first at I believe 400 hundred sets. OK the big question price frankly no one is sure because production is barely under way but for a set of two knives somewhere between two and three hundred dollars. I have been receiving requests for any information that I could get on these new knives. I hope this posting will answer some questions. Oh yes for anyone who might care about my opinion on these knives. I ordered my sets and have my number for future editions. Enjoy the pics and I hope it does not ruin anyones trip to Las Vegas this week, since I
posted these pictures before the show and now there will be nothing for them to do out there. LT

I hate to be the one to bring this up, but those look an AWFUL lot like Queen knives.......Queen does do a lot of contract work.....not that that would be a bad thing.....

Look at Queen's #19 trapper...and look at the hunting knife that they make for Moore Maker.....you'll see the "family" resemblance.......

Thanks to LT (sincerely) for posting these pics.

Thank you LT. Very much.

For those of you already going to Shot, and now you have nothing to look forward to since LT opened the can of beans early, may I suggest a certain young lady.. well, uh, er, just IM me, huh?

I noticed that their web site is not up yet. Any idea when that will happen?

They are about as busy as a one legged man in a stampede so I do not believe that they even know. It is a brand new ballgame. LT

Have you handled one of these yet? Can you share your opinions (unbiased of course!) on how they look and feel?

My opinion is just that only an opinion. However here it is, the materials used are excellant. The blades are D2 which is a good fancy steel there are others, that some might prefer. Remember it is damn tough to get blades made in the USA especially in the fancy high grade steels. This is a small plant and as yet must buy blade blanks just as even the big guys have to buy handle materials no one buys old bones anymore to make handle materials and the analogy is the same. These knives are USA to my knowledge, all the way.The knives are done by hand one at a time. There are only a handful of people working but the amount of years of experience that they have is amazing. The walk talk and feel of these is to me the same feeling I get when handling a one of a kind well made custom. I would love to see knives of this quality selling for five or ten dollars However in order to do that I would have to go back in time to 1900 and if I did that I would have to ride in an unheated wagon instead of a warm SUV so I guess I will pay the going price. However it is nice to still be able to get a knife with that old quality, kind of workmanship. These are production knives but, almost a hybred to a custom due to the small quantity being produced, the experience of the cutlers, and the quality of the materials. Like I said I signed aboard and ordered one of every issue they will produce under the same reserved number. It will be like everything else some people will like them some not. You cannot please everyone. Knives are an individual preference. I believe what a person carries or does when they put there hand in there pocket is a personal decision. Among other things when I reach my hand in my pocket one of the things I will be proud to grab would be one of these pocket knives. Of course if you happen to be in Vegas at the shot show you can judge for yourself. So for what it is worth if anyone is still awake after reading this I bet you are sorry you asked for my long winded opinion. LT

Can these be purchased as individual knives, or only as sets?

I would say so down the road, this is a first effort infact they are only taking orders at the shot show the knives still have to be made these are just the protos. LT

Are these knives going to be made in Ellenville or in Titusville?

Don't get me wrong. I am a big fan of Queen / Schatt & Morgan. Nonetheless, I would find a Canal Street branded knife from Titusville less interesting that one actually made by former Schrade cutlers in Ellenville.

The mystique lies in history, tradition, and continuity.

That having been said, I plan to support the new Canal Street Cutlery Co. regardless of the answer.

Blades will not be made in Ellenville. They do not have the facilitys or the manpower. Like I said how that affects your opinion is up to the individual. I am not trying to inflict my opinion on anyone I have never been a politician or a saleman. My diplomacy would have brought us to war many times over. My candor ( mouth) is such that I am amazed that I am still alive. It was certainly instrumental in my not getting promoted faster when I was on active duty. My biased and predjudiced attitudes are certainly not the ( at least voiced public opinion ). Saying all that the final analysis will be up to each individual. Just as handle materials will be bought and then shaped and fitted and just as liners will be bought and file worked ect. So I guess will be blade blanks. By the way they have 2 models of pearls one is a round bolstered stockman with file worked liners that ( again in my opinion ) are beautiful. the action on the one I looked at was something to experience. I only got to see the protos but doggone it was amazing. Then there was a dimpled bolstered 2 blade cattle style. I was afraid to ask what they would cost but they sure were pretty. You know down south there are a couple of well known knife people who have been heard to say that there are only two types of knives CASE and all that other junk. Well if you are of that ilk then there is not much that can be said except you should buy collect and use what you prefer. Personally you have my feelings and really all I am trying to do is give as much input as I can about what is going on. I hope this helps in answering some of the questions again it is about all the info I have right now. I imagine it will still be a while before the place is rolling it is quite a job getting a project like this going. Everything is relative you can buy a imported pearl handled knife from Smokey for under 20 dollars. It will do the job, most any knife will, so it is a matter of what you want. Heck there are some good higher priced knives as well Queen, Schatt, ect. My opinion is well known and my feeling is that when possible ( and it is getting damn hard ) the first rule for me is to BUY AMERICAN . That I am happy to say is all I have to say. LT

Lot of money, but once the first few runs are gone, the price should come down to a more reasonable level. Get it in the $50-75 level for yon trapper, and we'll have to talk. ;)

Im afraid I use to have that problem myself many years ago when I was first (few years) in the AF. Before the Lord changed me I had quite a mouth, and an attitude.

Amen I am sincerely glad that you have found the inner peace of your beliefs. Frankly in my case I have never considered the honesty of my actions and beliefs to be a problem except that since my concepts are not presently in vogue, my outspoken attitude has caused me not to achieve the material aspects such as promotions ect in life as quickly as those who so to speak were part of the flock. Since my beliefs are extremely important to me I have chosen to not take what would have been the more acceptable path and instead pursue the course I honestly believe. I will not bend I will not bow and it remains to be seen if I will not burn. Good luck on your journey it must be wonderful to have found your kind of tranquility. I envy the solace such faith brings.

Often people of faith tend to think that others who have not seen the supposed light or follow the same path are in some way lesser than others who choose not to accept that road . I have seen those who embrace either side of these concepts, show both, the good and bad of human nature. It just seems that when the believers commit some nefarious act they simply ask for forgivness and are forgiven those who do not repent are bound for purgatory. The people strapping 20 lb sachel charges on there backs and blowing up innocent people in IRAQ every day are obviously among the most devout in what they believe, it still does not make them right. I believe that we all should be remandable for our acts here and if we carry ourselves honestly there should be no need for contrition. What I am committed to, believe in and am willing to die for is the right of us all to make the decision of what we choose to accept and practice. Without intimidation or fear to themselves or others.

Since we should have knife content in this forum let me end by saying truth, honor, and justice are a two edged sword with different beliefs on either side as long as it is wielded in this aim then in my opinion it does not matter which edge is brought to bear to achieve these goals. LT

LT, Well said!!

A man is truly wealthy if he has a good knife, a good dog and a good friend.

I'm keeping this one.

"I believe that we all should be remandable for our acts here and if we carry ourselves honestly there should be no need for contrition."
Thanks LT.
