I know this is old hat to most of you high tech guys, but in 15 years of knife making this was my first Carbon Fiber handle. Obviously its very light, very tough, but NO ONE TOLD ME it was FILTHY when you grind it!! Seems like i spent 1/2 hour in the shower scrubbing black crud out of my skin.

Any how, this model is the "Scout", 7" blade, 12" overall, ultralight but hell for tough.

That looks pretty nice. Yeah, CF is nasty. You did use a respirator as well as a dust-collector or shop vac under the work, right? You do not want that in your lungs. Period!

Knife looks great though.

Will, yep and finally seems like im getting some work done!

Micheal, yep I use a respirator anytime I grind in the shop, used to let it slide sometimes on quickie stuff, but in the past few years if the grinder is running my respirator is on!

I always wear a full flight suit buttoned up to the neck when grinding CF, and wash it when done.

Stuff is toxic all the way around, worse than G10 from what I have been told.

HI Steven, yeah ive heard the same, and I will say this it makes me itch like crazy, still itchy around my wrists where my skin was exposed. ALso worked some G-10 today, and it didnt seem near as abrasive to my skin.

Looks great Matt!! Adds a cool new dimension to your knives.

Cordially,
Eric

Very cool knife. Thanks for sharing.
Please be VERY careful about carbon fibre dusts.
They are known to cause many serious health problems.

Nebulae, i finished the blade to 320 grit, the handle/guard to 400 grit, then did a real light and ultrafine bead blast on everything. It is very light and doesnt have too "gritty" a feel on the handle, or look on the blade. IN fact you can readily see the natural (no clay) hamon on the blade.

im working on another "Scout" this one is a tad larger, with some recurve and real active hamon. Im going to probably leave a satin belt (400 grit) finish on the CF, will post pics when its done.

Matt, glad to see that you finally got round to using the CF!! Looks real cool with the large weave.

I really like that a lot; I get used to seeing wood on this type of knife. The CF looks excellent!!!
