Just received my first CRK - the Umnumzaan. I love it, but I am still getting used to opening/closing it. I am still sifting through multiple threads with various tips. I got it used w/ a birth date of Jan 2010. Thanks for your time.

Are you pushing straight up toward the sky (top of the knife? It's not a sweep out like on many thumb stud style knives.

Welcome to the tribe. Beware, they reproduce like rabbits if you are not careful.

Congratulations on your first CRK!

You mentioned you had bought it used. Perhaps a cleaning, retuning would help? Invest in the cleaning kit and give it a go.

I believe somewhere I read the older models were harder to open/close than the current models. Maybe since yours is a 2010?

Anyway, what I know could fill a shot glass and leave room for whiskey :)

Congrats again and enjoy!

Thanks for your input! I actually ordered the pivot tool and CRK grease the day after i bought the knife :D

I don't have an Umnum yet, but every brand-new CRK I've ever had has been stiff as the dickens right out of the box. Just opening and closing the knife a few thousand times has worked on all of mine so far. They smooth up and get easier to open over time. My most recent, a small Insingo, literally peeled my thumb back from my thumbnail it was so hard to open at first. It's much easier to open now, I haven't taken it apart or messed with it at all, just opened and closed it a lot.

i havent taken it apart yet either, as i'm still waiting for the CRK grease and pivot tool. I figure with a birth date of 1/2010, it would have already been opened thousands of times by the previous owner(s). My thumb hurts also today.

but I'm not discouraged though, i still love it! :encouragement:

Umnumzaan was my first as well. The first time I ever saw a Umnumzaan and heard how much they were, I laughed at the guy. I really thought he was joking. Now I'm an addict.
