First time Emerson cqc7 guy

It will loosen up and be smooth as silk after you open and close it about 1 million times. It's pat of their charm.
 
I would give it a good cleaning - see if that helps.

Charm, shmarm. I like my knives to work well out of the box. Plenty of knives aren't stiff, stay that way, and yet don't loosen up over time.
