I really want to scream at you folks right now.... Years ago I collected knives. Nothing of the hand made sort, but I had a sizeable collection of Gerber blades. One day while at work, someone broke into our home and removed every collection of anything they could find... I instantly became the type that would no longer collect because of the bad taste it left. I recently was doing some research on knives with the idea that I would like to own one good knife with the idea that you would have to take it from my hands. That is when I stumbled across Fiddleback Forge. Did some research and knew I found the company, but needed to find the knife. No dealer stock did it for me and so I figured it was time to try my hand at the Fiddleback Friday. I looked forward to it all week waiting for that post. Not sure what I did, but refreshed it to see about twenty posts with folks claiming what I saw as the top pieces. I was going to just settle for something and then retracted thinking I could wait another week. Later that night while disappointed, I stumbled across a posting in the flea market. It was more my style, so I jumped on it. I am now awaiting delivery of the beauty. I posted up in need of a sheath and it wasn't long before I was in talks through a few emails about my interests. I am now also waiting on my first ever custom sheath.

I am now scouring again waiting to see what else pops up. I can't afford to collect them, but I sure wouldn't mind having a few. I read the talk about how these knives were obtained and such. I would say that it was a bit frustrating at first, but now I think it is brilliant. I find myself already waiting for the next round! It looks to me that there is enough activity in the flea market to find something within a reasonable time and you can jump in the tank on Friday's when you need a little excitement.

I will say thanks for a great product even though I have never held one. The following here seems to already prove it out.

I will say that when I buy your knives, they are going to get used..... We will see about collecting again one day.

Thanks for the fun week and the one ahead....

That's a great story
Thanks for sharing but be careful it's a slippery slope

Great post, Joe!

I was in a similar boat about a month ago in respects to trying to purchase my first Fiddleback. I missed a few Fridays and didn't see anything in dealer stock that jumped out at me. Scoured the Flea Market and nothing jumped out at me. It was kind of disconcerting and a bit intimidating at first.

Then one day I came upon a knife I really like at a dealer. A few days later and I scored my first Fiddleback Friday knife. And within another day or two, another knife popped up on the Flea Market. I am now proud owner of two knifes and my wife has her own.

Keep watching... it will happen!

Welcome,

Shaun

It was kind of disconcerting and a bit intimidating at first.

If you give it a little time, there are plenty of good Fiddlebacks out there.

Joe,
Welcome to this community. Great story, and congrats on your first Fiddleback. Glad you were not too discouraged and found what you were looking for. Just remember - pics or it didn't happen :D

Hey Joe. I too was in the same boat. At first the FF is a little frustrating if you do not "score" anything. I have been successful on FF a few times and as well in the fleamarket. I now have a... uh... er...(cough) few Fiddlebacks. Great knives and will be here again on Friday, clicking the soon to be worn out refresh button on my computer. : )

I just picked up the knife about 30 minutes ago. Pics will happen once I get the sheath, which is in the works. I am already scanning for something smaller that I can wear every day.

I'm new to FF as well. Just got my first via the Exchange before I found out about this sub forum. Now I'm following the Friday deals and the FFM. The more I learn about the company and artisan knife makers, the more interested I've become. Thanks for sharing your story although sorry about the break in.

Sorry to tell you but they are crazy good. I got my first FB end of last year and been saving up to get my next. Ive found it impossible to say I will get this one or that one. Rather I have a list to get in order lol. Good luck! Look forward to your assessment once you get one in your hands. Fiddleback fever. I got a fever and the cure is more knives.

I just spent about 10 minutes with it...... I can only confirm what most already know and that it is the best knife I have ever owned. The blade on this thing is stunning! I was comparing against a few other knives that I have picked up along the way with other very small knifemakers that only deal at flea markets, etc. One thing that got me was that you can't hang your hide on any metal part of the blade (other than the cutting surface). I have another expensive knife and when you grip it, the supposed guard will almost cut you with the edge of the metal. This knife has none of those issues. I think I was sold before I purchased due to research, but I can only confirm that there is some special attention going into these knives. And this knife is bigger and lighter than the other... I like a good solid feel which I get and it isn't too light.

I am on the hunt for a pocket companion and this confirms that I do still want the handle length, so shooting for a 4 inch handle and 3 inch or smaller blade. Several out there that fit that. Now money is a different story. I think I understand now why guys will grab three and then list six for sale later on. A rotating knife budget!

All I can say is thanks for a great product.....
