First time I've ever preordered...now how do I survive?

I preordered not one but TWO gorgeous knives this week. I have no idea when they're supposed to release, but this is the first time I've ever felt that I couldn't go on collecting knives if they get released and I don't get my hands on them. I suck at the whole waiting thing...how do you guys survive the wait?
 
I'm about to be in this boat whenever I find a place with a preorder for the new ZT 0454...hopefully someone gives you a good answer!
 
How to survive the wait? Go to a local shop and buy another knife to keep your mind off of the knives you're waiting on. Repeat as necessary.

Seriously though, I'm also terrible at waiting. I have a Strider that will hopefully be here this week and the anticipation is about to drive my wife crazy.

I hope it wasn't a Randall! they have a 5 year wait...

Don't think about the... at all, move on with you life... then when you get them in the mail.. it's like Christmas some gift getting celebration!!! But early... or late... in either case you get the gifts you really wanted.
 
I have three blades on preorder from BladeHQ. The ZT 566,801,770. I will order a 454 as soon as they are taking preorders. Its best to place the order ASAP, they will ship in the order they received the orders. The waiting does suck, but I'm sure 5 years from now I'll still be waiting on the next great blade. All good things in time.
 
The only remedy I can offer is to start making knives. Instead of buying knives while you're waiting, you can buy micarta, G-10,steel etc... The basic theory is that you are still buying knife related items, and you can get a sense of what custom maker do day in and day out. Hope this helps. I would also refer you to the exchange to get your "fix"
 
You just keep buying knives.

I am waiting on (in order of likely receipt) a HTM Gunhammer, Mike Vagnino Velox, ZT0600, and ZT0801cf.
 
Also just consider that you HAVE to wait as one major alternative, letting the wait literally kill you, is fatal in which case you will NEVER get the preordered item(s).

Not preordered but I am waiting on a Kershaw Damascus Shallot, a Boker Damascus and a Benchmade 960 as well as two inexpensive Chinese Kershaws.

I do this all the time anyways! :D My biggest thing is buying fixer uppers at gun and knife shows, they give a couple of days worth of fun and they're usually dirt cheap. I recently got a belt sander, so maybe I'll have to have a waterjet place cut some blanks for me....
 
I preordered the Bose/Case collaboration today, and I am going absolutely insane already and it's only been 10 hours. I would do the "buy another knife" trick, but I actually need to save money to pay for the darn thing. Oh well.
