Alright, so im knew to the world of carrying knives and as such, have no experience with dismantling or cleaning knives... After carrying my knife for a few months i figured i would clean it out and figured it wouldnt be that hard to do seeing as its a basic, non assisted folder. I unscrew all the Torx screws and take apart the knife. I then wiped everything down, sprayed some WD-40 on the pivot/bushings and put it back together. However, when i tried to open the knife it was very rough to open and not anywhere like it was before. So im just looking for some help and guidance as to what is causing this to happen and how i could fix it. The knife is the Kersaw Storm II any help would be great! sorry for bein a dunce! :foot:

Welcome.
Unless you have caked on gunk in the handle and the lockup is impacted by it, there is no real reason to take yourknife apart. A simple way to really clean out a knife is to soak it in a bucket or small containerwith warm soapy water. Open and close the knife several times wile under the water. Rinse the knife under clean water until the soap is all gone, and dry it out using canned air (like for cleaning computer keyboards or an air compressor). I usually do not use lube on my knives because I also noticed the grittiness as well.

I know to do that now instead :P thanks is there any solution to my current problem though or did i just balls it up permanently... i cant see how it could be irreversible

Loosen the pivot, make sure all other fasteners are tight, then tighten the pivot just until the blade is centered. The adjustments at this point are very fine, and with use may loosen a bit. Assuming it was assembled correctly, this should take care of the problem unless the washers got screwed up.

ive done just that and its still very scratchy.... how could the washers have been messed up?

It seems as though the liner lock is somehow pressing down harder which is causing the rubbing/scratching noise and seems like it is causing most if not all of the extra friction. i bent it back a little away from the knife a little but that didnt help. what could have caused all this? D: i just unscrewed some screws and wiped it down with a cloth then put it back together D:

I was refering to the oil you generously applied...wash it off following the suggestions I made earlier. All that oil is going to attract and hold onto any and all dirt, lint, and other particulates it comes in contact with. The result will be even worse.
Try this after washing the knife out again, it should work to make sure everything is lined up properly (despite the differences in materials).

Try holding the lock bar back and then moving the blade. If it moves smoothly, you can be sure it's the liner putting excess pressure on the blade. If that is the case, maybe the liner isn't seated all the way into the handle scale. What model is the knife, anyway? That could help with the details.

A co-worker of mine has a storm II, and I've had it apart. Good knife. The problem must be(in my opinion) due to assembly or wonked up washers. Frame locks are easy to fix. If you want to send it to me, I'll fix it for you. I'll even pay return shipping. If that doesn't pan out, I can send it straight back to KAI USA, and they can fix it.

By the way, did you pull the lockbar back to see if that is where the resistance is coming from?
