I have decided to stop buying, and start making. I have 2 questions. I'm getting a ddr kit, to begin with. How do I finish the blade to a satin/mirror finish? and how does on keep the texture on g-10? if the lsabs are too thick, I don't want to grind off the checkering. Can I re-texture g-10? How would you go about jigging hardwood, like cocobolo? ok, more than 2 questions. thanks..

To address the finish question, check out Bruce Evans' Hand rubbing a blade tutorial. This describes the process of achieving a satin finish better than anything else around here.

If the slabs are textured on the "outside" and you want them thinner, sand away on the "inside" until you get the thickness you want. Afix (photo layout spray adhesive works) a sheet of 120 or so grit sandpaper to glass or other very flat surface, and go to town.

You can buy checkering files for wood like gunstock makers use, but this is far outside my experience!

Good luck, be sure to share your results with us, and welcome to the satisfying world of custom knife making!
