First Time Sheath Suggestions

Hey guys. I got my first serious fixed blade at Blade this year, the Knight EDC Fighter. 5inch blade, 5 inch handle.

I want to start carrying it. In Virginia, you cannot conceal a fixed blade so that's not a concern.

I'm wondering what sheath style would best suit my needs. I'm a bigger guy so carrying really high is not an option.

Here's what I think are my two best options for a sheath that will carry comfortable, open and that I can sit, drive, etc with:

1. Traditional vertical carry drop sheath. Probably somewhere is the 3 or 4 o'clock range. Belt loop somewhere towards to end of knife so it hangs low. My main concerns are it flopping against my leg and trying to sit/drive with it on.

2. Horizontal carry, front carry like 1 to 2 o'clock. Probably dropped down a little bit for comfort and to make sure it's semi visible. It seems like this would be more comfortable for sitting/driving but may be clunky and flap against my leg while walking.

Any suggestions, pictures, recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!!

I like to use a dangler. It allows the sheath to swivel a bit so it is more comfortable when driving or sitting in a chair. If you google knife sheath dangler and look at the pictures/images, you'll see what I'm talking about.

How's it work for a 10 inch knife? I have a small Gary Wheeler knife that has a sheath with a carabiner so it works just like that and it flops around a bit. It doesn't bother me because it weighs nothing though.

Based on your description of carry positions, probably the best solution for you for that knife would be an angled cross draw (semi horizontal). Either way left or right the angled cross draw would probably be best and if I am remembering the knife correctly it would do best in a pouch style sheath.

Paul, here's a pic of the knife as a refresher:

That was the knife I was thinking of. Pouch style sheath would be best suited, I think. I answered your email with some example photos.

Check out the sticky at the top of the forum. Tal's pouch sheath wip thread will be of great help even if you don't make one just like his. My first sheaths were based on his design (by permission) and just rock.

Tons of detailed pics and instruction, plus 4 hours of video.
