About the Autoclip...
Yes, there isn't any spring that works the clip. Instead the tension is created by simply turning the wheel either clock wise or anti-clockwise to tighten or loosen the hold of the clip.
Also, one is advised to tighten up the clip in the event the knife is in use. Left in a wide open gape, the clip may sustain a possible damage or maybe leave room for a "band aid session".
Personally, it works fine for me. And I especially like the fullness in the palm of the hand, due to the inherited bulk at the butt end of the Autoclip. It really makes good for a reverse /icepick grip.
If there was room for an improvement, I would suggest some slight body in the mid section of the handle, a diamond checked grip pattern and a dual sided finger guard instead of the present single finger choil layout.
