This will be my first time stripping the coating off of a blade. I'll be using citristrip on a becker bk9. How do I wash the blade off after removing the coating? Can I just run it under water and soap in the sink? Or will the chemicals ruin piping..etc?

And for the left over stripper, do I just let it evaporate and scrape it off into a garbage bag?

Thanks

Surprised nobody chimed in, but the holidays were right in the middle. I have used citristrip on a couple of Beckers, and my method is to do it outside on a sheet of plastic or in a carefully arranged trash bag. Put it on, give it 15 minutes is if its a warm enough day, at least the 70s, then use a painter's blade to scrape off the gunk. If you let it dry it doesn't scrape as easily, so put it on thick enough that it will still be wet after it has had time to work. Flip it over, do the other side. There will likely be a bunch of little places where the coating will still be holding on, especially if you took the handle scales off and did the tang. A scotchbrite pad or brass wire brush will convince it to go away, or apply more citristrip to soften it up.

Citristrip may not be as dangerous as the old paint strippers, but still use gloves. The combined coating and chemical gunk is NOT something you want to wash down the sink unless you have the plumbing skills to pull a P trap and/or snake the pipe; it's neither water soluble nor does it biodegrade. I strip on the plastic, let it dry out, then wrap it up and toss it in the trash. With the old school strippers, I took the waste in on Toxic Waste Day at the recycler, but citristrip is nothing like it.
