I always loved samurais and ninjas as a kid and I just purchased the Paul Chen Hanwei GOLDEN ORIOLE Japanese Katana Sword. It looks awesome and I'm very excited! What are people opinions on this katana?

I had one, it was not monosteel, iirc, it was forged/folded.

It was bendy....and a bear to straighten out.

The 14" handle is about 3" longer than "traditional" for the blade length, but if you have very large hands, that isn't a problem.

The fittings and the finish are quite nice, and if you practice, you can get nice tachi-kaze or "sword wind" which is a pleasing "whoosh" when you swing.

Not a bad get, by any means.

Best Regards,

While I certainly don't own one, the reviews I have seen have been positive. Congratulations on your new katana! I believe that's the one where it depicts a mantis stalking a grasshopper who is unknowingly being stalked itself by the oriole!

It's a Hanwei, that should say enough. They're good swords, it's very nice looking. I personally prefer a shorter tsuka. Definitely want to know how it cuts for you. Overall I like it. Pretty cool man give us a detailed review.
