For the first time I have wet formed sheat. It turned not so bad. I did with fingers only wet forming so those stitches could be more close to knife If If I had used some sort of bone folder. I also wantedto see how it will be if I only used oil and leave to darken by itself. I used Balistol- some gun oil. There is not so much sun here now to put sheat outside. If i had used olive oil would sheat be darker? On the edges i used some bees wax and than burnished. Please criticism and advice welcome

Very nice, neat work. Be sure to check the oil you use before putting it on leather. You DO NOT want anything that contains petroleum distillates and that includes Neatsfoot Oil COMPOUND. Pure Neatsfoot is AOK. Olive oil is good too.
Where and how your leather was tanned will have a bearing on how how quickly it turns and the degree of darkening under natural sunlight conditions. Your photo example doesn't look like the oil darkened it much at all.

I like that
The flow of the corners because you only used your fingers adds to the overall look of the sheath in my opinion
Sometimes using a bone folder makes the finished sheath look abrupt and severe .
There is a time and place for both methods .

Very nice!! Yes olive oil tends to darken it a little bit more but again it will depend on the leather tannage. Nice job. Where are you.

Yeah I bet its winter time there for sure. Cold and wet here too. Finally. We had two inches of rain Thursday. We had 4 inches last year and 4 inches the year before. Its raining right now too, cool.

I didn't realise it was so dry where you are Dave .
Those rainfall figures are similar to some of our a Outback conditions .
The property owners out west of me are doing it tough at the moment , no rain for 2 years , they have sold most of their animals and the breeding stock they have tried to keep hold of are dying , people are going out of business .
Primary industry of any kind is a hard way to make a coin .

Same here. It was funny we were down talking to the USDA FSA rep (United States Dept of Agriculture Farm Service Agency) about drought relief during the worst (or best depending on your viewpoint) rainstorm in five years. The paper called it Stormageddon. He informed us that Kern County, where we are, had 90 percent of its grazing destroyed by drought last year. We're one of the few outfits that have any cattle left, almost everybody sold out. We cut back by 80 percent. This program that he was talking to us about is to help us buy our cattle back. Problem is they have more than doubled in price. So a bred heifer that we sold for $1000 is now selling for $2400 to $2500. Ouch. And that gentlemen, is why leather is costing more.
