Well, it finally happened, ladies and gentlemen. I was able to get out with my BK2 for the first time...and got paid for it! As part of the cadre for West Point's Cadet Basic Training Land Navigation Course, I was part of a team training new trainers and was one of the points that were required to be found as part of the final test day. That meant a few hours sitting in one area out in the woods. So, I took a few fun tools I hadn't had a chance to use: my BK2, a little folding saw and the newest member of the family, a Fall Creek Knives Bushcraft (happy birthday from my wife!).
I gotta say, the BK2 lives up to its reputation. This thing is a monster chopper and made some remarkably easy work of some 4-5 inch deadfall. Tore through that stuff like it was nothing. I can't wait to get back out when it's not 90+ degrees out and I can process some wood for a fire. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics of any of these great tools in action. I did, however, make sure to get photographic evidence of what happened the first 5 minutes:
The first of 3 of these dressings...glad I brought the FAK...
And, of course, a photo of the Fall Creek blade, which I highly recommend (and is responsible for the photos above):
