Question: how in the %$-#@+ does THAT blade take an edge like that?! I could perform surgery with this thing. Who would have guessed this was possible with a sak Spartan and a 40 year old Hiram Smith sharpening kit! Wow!

The steel they use is pretty soft and very easy to sharpen and it will get very sharp.

While the sak steel is not the lastest and greatest, and there are many knives that will outcut it, they have one huge advantage. They can be brought back to razor edge sharpness in just a few minutes on a wide range of make shift sharpening media. In fact, I dare say it's probable that the sak blade was designed to be able to be touched up almost anywhere, on almost anything. No special sharpening gizmos needed. The bottom of a coffee mug, top of a car window, stropped on the back of a legal pad or other cardboard, the back of a leather belt. The edge will last a reasonable amount of time in real world use, and will cut well even when less than razor sharp due to the blade geometry.

Factor in how handy just a few tools are in every day life, and the extremely high corrosion resistance, and you have an excellent edc pocket knife. Probably handier than a sebbie in the real world.:D

Carl.

No "probably" about it, IMO. If I could only have one knife, I'd toss my Sebenza and keep my SAK without a second thought.

Off the subject, if you're an AC130 pilot 1: God bless you for what you do for us and 2: you fly freaking coolest thing in the air!

Thanks. Spent 30yrs in various 130's...last ten of those in the Spooky. But now I'm retired and fly a recliner. :)
