Could any of you suggest a good novice knife kit for a first timer. I just HAVE to try and make one. (From a kit at least...) I would like to make a small fixed blade knife. Any suppliers or kit #'s to try would be much appreciated!

Canis,

While many of the knifemaker supply houses and folks like Atlanta Cutlery offer a kit comprised of blade, handle material, pins and glue along with instructions (and bolsters or guard if required by the model), I don't think you can beat the price for the quality offered in Rob Simonich's Cetan kit.

Check out his website at

http://www.simonichknives.com

I think you'll like what you find (and the blade is already razor sharp).

Keep yer powder dry and cutters hair poppin' sharp!

Bob,

As posted in the general discussion forum, I've just ordered a Cetan Tanto in D2. I also just happened to look at his Cetan Kit. I think I may just order one. It'll be fun to see the difference in my finished product versus his! (Luckily my ego can withstand such humbling comparisons!!)

So...where would one find a "ya ya" extricating knife kit? Do you mean that Rob's kits are maybe too advanced or expensive to try on the first go 'round? What would you suggest?

Canis..
Do a search here on the forum for "Jadis"

He built one of Rob's and it came out great. What is important here is that Jad hardly knew a hammer from a screwdriver

You know its true Jad hahahaha. But it won't come sharp cuz you will have to finish it. Sharpening is part of making a knife

I forgot....e-mail Jad and he'll give you the skinny. Here are some pics of Jad's finished Cetan

Thanks to all for the info! I'll post later about which kit I get. If it even remotely resembles a knife when I'm done with it...I'll post pictures also.
