Hello!
Just ordered a Buck 301 with Rosewood handles, my first traditional pattern (not counting SAKs), and have a question:

I have read about «the pull» and a rating 1-10. I’ve also read that the 301 can have a weak pull. How would you compare it to a Cellidor SAK on that scale from 1 - 10?

Sounds good. I got one of the first Pioneer X, and that one didn’t snap shut, I could also move the blade a mm out of the handle before the spring caight on. As long as it’s not like that, I will be happy.

And now, the wait..

If an SAK is considered a 5, I'd call the pull on the main of a 301 a 4. This may be too light for some, but I find it too be a non issue. It pulls smoothly and has a nice snap opened and closed.

301 are claimed to be soft pull, but I find them perfectly satisfactory. As jacknife has told the story of Mr Van don't fight with your knife
Agree. The (allegedly) light pull of around a 4 on the 1-10 scale on the 301 is one of the reasons it is my most carried and used Stockman.

The Rosewood 301 is a fine looking knife. Good choice. :)
Use it well :D

Yes ! This ^^^
and I am no traditionals expert by FAR but I find pull isn't all that important as far as if it is too light . . . it is how much the knife resists closing that is important. In other words even if a knife has a nicely made ramp / cam on the tang so it opens without ripping your finger nail up the knife can still be good and safe to use because on the other part of the tang the cam has a different, more pivot resistant, shape.
NOW THAT IS A WELL MADE KNIFE !
