First traditional in a long time--but is it too nice to carry/use?

Boy, you guys weren't kidding about these T. A. Davison knives--they are nice! But not too nice to use, right? Do you figure it's cool to just throw this in my pocket as my EDC? (Sorry about the terrible pictures--my office light is poor at best.)

Length is 4" closed, with a 3" blade. Here is how it compares to my other custom (a very different knife):

Anyway, thanks for facilitating a new addiction. These things are so cool they make me want to give up on my other knives. I think I need a Lanny's Clip next, but need to find one with stag scales that I can still use.

Cheers!
Daniel

Nice folder! Not too nice to use in my book.

MMMMHHHH, Lanny's clip! Sounds like you need one!

Very nice Daniel. Beautiful covers. I received my first T.A. Davison knife the other day and have enjoyed carrying and using it. Todd builds an incredible knife. Here is a pic of mine and a pic of that stag lannys clip you speak of,

Beautiful! Sorry my pictures are terrible--Todd did a fantastic job matching up the burl on both sides, and the knife feels fantastic in the hand, if a touch larger than usual for EDC.

Who made your Lanny's Clip? That looks fantastic. I definitely need one!

BTW--how is MT these days? I miss it. I was born and raised in Bozeman, but don't get out nearly often enough.

Cheers,
Daniel

That's what I would do if it were mine. There are plenty of things that would keep me from using a knife, but being 'too nice' is not one of them.;)

Obviously it's a personal decision that only you can make. If you feel comfortable using it, then I say go for it. What better way is there to find out just how nice a knife really is than to see how it performs in everyday use?

I don't really need any convincing--I'm using it! It should be a regular daily user, no reason not to enjoy the heck out of it.

Thanks,
Daniel

I would use it, but I'd make darn sure there is no change in the pocket it is in.

Well, alright then! I hope you get plenty of use out of it. Congrats on the new knife, it sure is a beauty.

Daniel, Doc Hagen made that LC. Montana is great these days, big part of our lives. Take care and enjoy that knife.

Beautiful knife. Hope you'll enjoy using it

(Those pics - and the knives - are beautiful too Kris :) )

Every now and then, one of us is caught in this cloud of doubt, and it's nice to see how people share their decision process here. In the end, though, no one can decide for you, it's such a personal thing, and our attitude towards our knives is very unique.
Anyway...if you want me to choose for you :) or push you to one direction...then put it in your pocket right now

Thanks gents! I've been carrying it this week. The only awkward part is that it tends to fall low and lay flat in the pocket if there isn't a watch pocket or change pocket for it. But that's a minor issue. Maybe a pocket slip would help, but I'd rather save that money for a Lanny's Clip!

I need to fix one part of the grind, but it's such a nice knife.

its a really pretty knife. i dont have anything nearly that nice but nevertheless i would say that a completely unused knife is sort of... i dunno, sad or something.
this is assuming that your carry and use situation is such that you would be reasonably certain that you would not lose or ruin the knife. i probly wouldnt carry a really special knife onto a sailboat, for example, where you might drop it in the ocean or get swamp mud embedded in the mechanism or something like that. that knife, to me, doesnt look like one that you would reach for when you need to scrape gaskets or half-dried concrete. lol
but for sort of light tasks like opening packages or cutting flowers or whittling tent pegs i think a knife like that absolutely ought to be used.

USE IT!

Maybe also use some wisdom in what you carry in that pocket with it. I just picked up one of Todd's in the secondary market. When my money clip was bare I transferred it over to the other pocket but Now its in there with the knife. Love it and so far not detrimental effects. Love Todd's workmanship and the size and layout are perfect.
