Outside of Case I knew diddly about other traditional folders. Recently was enamored by gec # 71. While scouring the forum for one up for sale, I came across these 4 beauties. Took a leap of faith and so happy that I did. Honestly I am blown away by the action and fit and finish of these knives.

I just need a little help with identifying the models. I know the top two are schatt and morgan produced by queen. The northwoods I believe is pre gec as it has a gladstone usa marking. The only one I know is the gec pemberton #06 as Its the only one with a ID number. Any help would be appreciated.

Good choices! Did you find a #71? If not shoot me a PM, I might be able to help you out. And welcome to the porch!

I did. Have a user and a lnib trade pending with a fellow member. If something doesnt work out I will keep you in mind. Thanks

Your Schatt & Morgan with the single spear blade is a #99 Scout from their Keystone series, with 420HC stainless steel and ebony covers. 150 were made by Queen for KnivesShipFree around 2015ish.

A truly lovely knife, and one of the few I regret selling. Enjoy it! :)

NICE ones !!! :)
Before Derrick Bohn acquired the Northwoods brand, Northwoods was owned by Dave Shirley.
That Northwoods of yours looks to me, to be from the Dave Shirley era.
I also believe it was made for Northwoods by Queen and appears to have Italian jig bone similar to other Dave Shirley Northwoods knives.
While Derrick used GEC for most of his knives, he did have at least one produced by Queen ... his Indian River Jack ... and it too has the Gladstone tang stamp.

Is it blasphemy to polish these things? I dont mind the patina but figured I might start from scratch and do it myself.

Unlike the 420HC Queen versions, my 2015 Northwoods Indian River Jack from KnivesShipFree (Queen #99 frame) uses CPM154 steel

Your Northwoods should be Queen’s d2 steel.

Agreed

I was not aware d2 was used in traditionals. Thank you for the info.

There is something very satisfying about the half stop on most of these. The northwoods does no have it. The crispest action hands down goes to the gec.

Damn another hobby. I never would of thought I would ever get into slipjoints. What the hell. Yolo
I had to chuckle. I am always amazed at folk who think traditional knives started 20 some odd years ago instead of 120 some odd years ago. You haven't even touched the genre.

tongueriver tongueriver I completely agree. I'm excited to be diving into the history of the endless options. I haven't even begun to scratch the surface. To be honest everyone has to start somewhere. I'm well aware that these knives have a long and storied history. I just never paid attention because I was caught up in the tactical or modern folders. Maybe it was because of my time as a soldier.

I have been thinking alot lately about what my dad and grandfather carried and thats what started peaking my interest. Now I'm done for. I honestly can see myself only purchasing traditional slipjoints for now on.
