Ok. This is my first axe restoration and haft replacement. The haft replacement was a little more a pain in the a$$ than originally thought, but i got through it.
I think next time I might blue the axe head. The 32" haft was bought through Amazon sold by ToolDude, and my only complaint is that the "wedge" for the eye was useless, way too small. Completely happy with it though. I may buy a sheath through Steven C. Catts at Leathersmith, but he seems to be backed up for months.

Hope the photos get posted properly.

That's a good looking axe and a nice first hang. The toe is still long - not abused and filed. That's important. An old axe can be sharpened and re-hung but there's no way to put metal back on the toe.

It looks like it once had a banana grind. It would be cool to restore that as well.

wow, except for the pitting, that thing looks great. The pitting just adds character now that it's all clean!

See my recent axe-sheath-howto thread if you feel inclined to try making one yourself.

Yeah, I thought the "pitting" was a little much, but it does add character. That's why I thought bluing the head might have been a better approach for this particular head.

Nice work, grains look awesome! Personally I like the pitting, give it soul

Looks good. Not mushroomed and a full bit, a great find.

I ordered a sheath from Mr. Catts last July and I am still waiting. He told me at the time it would be a month. He had some problems and hurricane Sandy set him back but still I wonder if I'll ever see a sheath from him.

Very nice work on your Kelly. Kellys are great axes and I love them. May it serve you well for many years to come.

Tom
