Hi guys, I'm new here and am looking for help on how to do a patina on my new BK2. I'm looking to use this knife for possible food prep so I want the chemicals or the components I use to be safe. My questions are,

1) How do I remove the stock paint off my Becker possibly without using unsafe chemicals and,

2) How do I force a patina on my Becker while still being safe to use for food prep?

I don't have a lot of money to use for this project so the cheaper the better.

Thanks in advance for the advice that I'm about to be flooded with.

You can remove the coating with sandpaper/emery cloth but it would take awhile.. And you can force patina's with vinegar or anything acidic like that.

Kleen-strip or pure acetone to remove it chemically. Razor blades/knife or sandpaper to do it with elbow grease.
Use vinegar, lemon juice, mustard, curry, etc...... Anything highly acidic, to force a patina.

I like apple cider vinegar. I heat it up to boiling and then toss the knife in. I take it out and wash it off good and do it again and again until it's as dark as I want. Beware, this will turn a knife black as sin. I like it though.

BTW this is my new baby, I have not sharpened this blade yet but plan on it. Before you get on my about my horrible job wrapping the rope just remember I'm new to this and I only spent like 10 minutes doing that.
