I'd be interested in any comments you chaps might have. This is the folder I posted about a while back asking for information about shortening a blade.

I'm not 100% happy with it, but I'm not too upset by the way it's turned out either; and at least it's given me some practice/ideas.

I hope the post is ok, I'm still fairly new to this forum stuff.

Thanks. That is where I'd love to get to. I think a lack of space and tools will hold me back from being able to even try it for a while though.

Why did you grind the tip of the blade down?
If it was sticking out of the liners, you can file the "kick" (pointed part of the tang, just behind the edge) to lower the tip.

No it wasn't sticking out; although I am having a problem with that on an old British MOD folder, so that advice will come in handy, thanks.
I needed to shorten the blade to make it legal for carrying (I'm in the UK and it was over our length limit). When I asked about doing that before, people suggested a sheepsfoot style profile, so that's what I was aiming for, without shortening it more than necessary.
Would you have recommended something different?

No. it's fine. I just wanted you to know about lowering the tip properly.

I was wondering about that for that other blade I mentioned (was going to be researching that later this weekend) and I didn't know. All advice is useful and appreciated, thanks.

Out of interest is it possible to raise the blade if it's contacting the inside and getting dented, or would that be a case of having to thin the blade so it's shorter than the kick?
