hi all,

not as serious about knives as i'm sure some of you are, but i decided to go shopping for a good fixed blade knife that would work good while camping and whatever else.

first blade i picked up was a gerber.. 5981 i believe? grabbed it for about $60 CDN, then after leaving the store i realized it was made it taiwan. i came home, found this forum, did a little research then went back and returned it within the hour.

next, i went out to another knife store and found a Ka Bar tanto. it was my favourite out of the places selection, so i picked it up for around $100. after leaving, doubt began to set in, and i soon realized that wasn't the knife for me either. a nice knife, but just too small and not the exact type of tip i was looking for. the knife is sitting next to me now actually, but aside from cutting up a mango it hasn't been put to any use. i'm going to return it in the next day or two.

today though, i went to another knife store. their selection was by far the best, and i curiously asked the owner if he had any beckers.. the BK7 specifically (a forum fav i see). he said he didn't have any and doubted he could get one, but 5 minutes later his buddy chimed in and said they could get me one for next week. i paid them $110 for it after taxes, and that includes delivery to my house. i'll be eagerly awaiting it's arrival.

anyway, just thought i'd post about my soon-to-be first knife. i was also eyeing the Ontario knives - my next knife is definitely going to be Ontario's Rat-5, a very sexy knife. anyone who doesn't know Ontario should check out their stuff.

but yea - thanks for the knowledge guys,

chance
