Well, when I was in my accident, I had a Beaver Falls Tidioute 73, among a bunch of other knives, on the seat of my truck. A couple custom fixed blades from Scott Gossman and NWA knives. I was so afraid of the EMTs getting hurt by these knives I told them to be careful. No, they were not open or out of the sheath, but stuff does get bounced around in an accident. My LM Wave might be gone to the world for all I know, it was on the door pocket. All of these things can be replaced. I am very lucky to have my foot, if I wasn't wearing steel toe shoes I had just bought for myself, I would be down a foot. The shoe is still stuck in the pedal, won't come loose for the world. Can you imagine, that while I have my knife roll with most of my slipjoints in it on the kitchen table taking up space, I want these knives! I also want to look at my fixed blades and my Case Bose collaborations. Jeez, I know I have cabin fever bad, but this is the epitome of knife nut problems. About a dozen knife magazines cluttering a corner of the kitchen table. When I went into the hospital, they made my father sign a whole ton of forms for "all the knives I had in my pockets". He thought I had a whole arsenal of cutlery. Guess what, just my Case peanut and swayback gent. I guess they thought I was gonna terrorize the place from my ICU bed. My father grabbed everything from the truck and stuffed it all in two contractor bags that I have yet to go through. All knives and gear can be replaced. I told him from the ICU that I couldn't give a rat's butt about those knives, and he was astonished. I think it was the pain meds talking ;).

It is all in good fun tracking down that "last" knife we "need". Even after all that happened, I am looking in the Exchange today. However, grab your loved ones and give them a squeeze and be thankful for the fact that you can participate in this hobby. Be thankful for the ones you have met and the friends you have made. I love the beauty of a well made knife, but all I want to do is sit next to a nice camp fire on a cool fall night, sipping coffee, looking at the moon and listening to the forest around me. It would be great to have my sweetie next to me, or at least my pups or a good friend. A knife would set off the romantic notion, but they are just tools. I am still a knife nut, no worries about that.

Someone told me recently don't cry over anything that cannot cry back for you. Very sound words indeed.

"Someone told me recently don't cry over anything that cannot cry back for you." Wise words to live by as well! I'm glad your still with us my friend; prayer sent for a good recovery!

Glad you are alright!!

I´m glad you´re alright, so far. Thank god for those steelcaped shoes!

Wise words, you were speaking, Sir! And you´re completelly right.

I also hope, you get all your knives back, but what mean knives in danger of loosing a foot? I´m sure you´ll get well, soon.

Kind regards
Andi

Hey, you're lucky that someone rescued 'em for you!
When I was in my bad accident, in April 07, I lost a S&M English Jack (the big one with the two long blades and worm-groove handles) and the CSC ring-twist forum knife. My only guess is that some dude from the towing company or the salvage yard now has a couple nice knives he'll never actually appreciate. :(

I got most of them, went through two trash bags of stuff, and a cardboard box full of knives ;). Missing a multitool and SAK, and a few flashlights. Y'know what? I got a little miffed, and then looked at my leg, and was glad that I was in a lot of pain instead of 6 ft under, and had the ability to act like a child for a second and get miffed. So glad to be alive.

I will be checking at the accident scene for that Wave though ;).

Been so busy of late, I did not hear about this until now jk. Whew I am just glad all parts of you are OK. That is what is important.
I know we all enjoy our knives, but when it comes to the important things they take a back seat.

Glad you came through this whole, and maybe even ahead of the game if you've found a deeper appreciation for life. Keep on keeping on!

For the past couple weeks after the accident I've been so scared of losing this new lease on life. Now, I realize that you just soldier on, and try to make most of every day. Last Wed, I was using my walker to get around. My doc told me to wean myself off the stationary boot, I walked about 50 yards with my walking stick and boot today. Maybe next week, I'll be able to walk a short distance without the boot.

Broken spine, but it was the L4 and C4? Probably have that wrong, but the doctor, and my mom who is an RN, said that most people go their entire lives with those broken, and don't even know it.

Broken leg, but it is not a bad fracture, is healing fast, and I can put all of my tremendous weight on it when in the boot.

I am in severe pain right now, but no broken ribs. Man, I am doing so much better. Give your loved ones a squeeze!

This is a quote that has some great influence right now

"I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”

The accident was scary and it was bad. I have pics of the truck after it was removed from the tree, and it is bad. Make you, well, me anyway, shake in your boots bad. It is sitting at my uncles body shop, and his customers are taking their kids who are of driving age, to see it. People ask, did the guy die? My uncle gladly says, "He's alive and walking around!" I am so lucky, but I have to remember this quote. Nightmares are getting better too.

That's good that all you are missing are a few knives, if you know what I mean.

Glad you are still around and in one piece.

My all time favorite thing to do, wife, coffee, campfire, the beauty of the forest. Man, I hope you get feeling better soon, and are able to get back to those things in time for those cool fall nights. Thank God you didn't lose your foot.

Indeed is right. I think I'll give my wife an extra hug tonight for putting up with me and my silly collections. She and my sons are all that really matter.

Not that I don't enjoy those silly collections though :D

<edit to add> I'm one of those that has a messed up C4 and L4 (and C3 and C5, and L3) and still get around ok. Some days hurt worse than others, and some don't hurt at all. If I can chase after a bunch of 11-17 y/o Scouts at summer camp you'll should be ok too God willing. Good wishes headed your way.
