Well, this month has already had quite a few firsts for me:
First Axis Lock. Actually, first Benchmade. All rolled together in one classy package known as the ‘940 Osborne.’ Sweet knife! I was hesitant after hearing so much negative feedback about Benchmade’s Quality Control, but my 940 arrived without issue; a damn-near perfect specimen. Mine has an S30V blade and green aluminum scales with a purple anodized titanium back-spacer. I’d also add that the reverse-tanto blade represents my first tanto-style blade ever.
First Boker. A Boker Plus ‘Hyper’ to be specific. If any of you are into thin, flat pocket-knives and don’t already have one of these, you really ought to rectify that ASAP. Made in China, with a 440C 2.75” recurved TiNi coated blade, I’d say the Boker ‘Hyper’ rivals the Spyderco ‘Persistence’ in value—around $35. It has the added bonus of an extremely low-profile clip. The ‘Hyper’ comes right-hand tip-down with the option to swap for tip-up, but I’ve heard that the screws are prone to stripping. Mine will stay as is for now.
First ‘mighty-mite’ Spyderco. The ‘Dragonfly 2’ to be exact. It is a wicked awesome little knife! 10/10 from Spyderco… no surprises there. ‘Nuff said.
First Byrd knife. The Byrd ‘Cara Cara 2’ in FRN. For the price, you just can’t beat it. Minor fit & finish problems, namely ragged-cut jimping on the thumb-ramp & choil and maybe a bit wavy on the full-flat grind, but nothing that would impede performance. If you like the Spyderco ‘Endura’, you’d like the ‘Cara Cara 2’. I especially like the bi-directional scale pattern; I might even like it more than the pattern on my ‘Delica 4’ (arguably my favourite EDC ever.)
First time swapping-out the Victorinox ‘Classic’ on my keychain for another model. I used to swear by the Vic ‘Classic’, but I’ve discovered that I like the Vic ‘Rambler’ even more! A far superior configuration! I just can’t see myself ever going back to the ‘Classic’…
Anyway, that concludes my rant. Thanks for reading!
