the other fishing thread got me thinking, what are some of your ways of cooking up your catch when out in the wilderness. i have never actually done this. we always would take them home, or back to the camp and fry it up. i would like to know some tasty ways to prep/cook fish in the wild. thanks

I will sometimes roast them over an open fire.Couple handfuls of green leaves imparts a very mild smoky flavour
This one wasnt gutted just tied to s tick with spruce root

This one was opened up but still roasted same way only using a forked stick and a twist of wire kept for just such occasions

I remember a Julia Child program when she cooked a salmon in Norway .She must have wrapped the fish with about a mile of aluminum foil !!
Before they invented aluminum similar ways include wrapping the fish with leaves, mud, salt or paper.

fileted and cooked on a flat rock or whole minus the inards and cooked on a stick.. i dont tote around butter and flour when i am fishing. i may have some at the camp however.

scrap the gills off- ifn , of course, its a fish with gills. otherwise just throw em on the fire whole and eat when they're well charred.
my laotian neighbors go fishing several evenings a week. mostly crappie. thats how they cook em. scrap, salt and throw em on the grill. dude, i love it when those guys invite me over for a cookout!

I clean and fillet my trout and grill them over the campfire, with a bit of olive oil and some pepper. Mmm.
