I was gifted a shimano calcutta 200GTB, I have no real need for it, i have more poles and reels than i'll ever use, but it's a beauty reel. Should i find a set-up for it? What is your experience with them?

It's brand new, never used... I just am going back and forth what to do with it. it's not something i would ever buy for myself, knowing how i fish, it doesn't quite suit me.....

it was a gift from a client that new i was an outdoorsman and gave it to me as a thank you for a job i did for free for them.

So how do you feel about the calcutta series? how do you use them? should i keep it? or should it fund a knife perhaps? haha....

Oh and a couple extra pics for fun... from last weekend, a nice little rainbow, and a lake trout.

I just so happen to have a charity for such items....my address is......lol

I would be glad to do a long term test as well, like 15 or 20 years

Nice fish.....That's a great reel that will last a life time. 200 size is a decent all around reel, it could do jigs for bass to swim baits to light salt duty. Whatever you do research it and get a fair price, they run around 240 new. Bass Boat Central has a good buy sell market that is free and easy to use....no post count or paid membership required. That will get you more $ than ebay typically.

Hahaha, I'm not rich enough for that kind of charity...

ya, i'm back and forth about it. no really big water where i am, i've contemplated getting into the swimbait game, and tried it with a buddy that is WAY too in to it, (if there's such thing, those swimbait guys are hardcore haha) i'm more of a fly fisherman generally, and swimbaits are the total opposite end of the spectrum. i'm trying to CATCH their swimbaits in a small mountain stream haha.

thanks for the advice on the market, i'm gonna go check it out... maybe i'll end up trading for something i'll get more use out of... if i did sell it, i'd just end up buying a new pair of waders anyways.

The 200 series Calcuttas are great small swimbait reels and crankbait reels also!
