No, although that would be way cool but above my skill level at this time. Maybe make a metal puch or something? I'm doing a small sharp finger for a friend and am trying to figure out how to have the blade look like it has fish scales. Nothing to deep, almost like an illusion look possibly.Do you mean like Fish Scale Damascus? If so you have to fold the steel layers in a particular way to produce the effect.
I did this years ago using ferric chloride and a viny stencil that I had a local t-shirt shop make. It came out nice: (Edit. I didn't realize that picture would be so small. I have another blade that I did the same treatment to, on stainless. Let me find a photo..)No, although that would be way cool but above my skill level at this time. Probably the best call is the already mentioned acid etch. No, although that would be way cool but above my skill level at this time. Maybe make a metal puch or something? No I didn't but that might work. Maybe do an overlay to get the effect.Could you mean jewelling marks?

The hole punch crossed my mind at one point. I do appreciate the thoughts so far. As usual, what my mind sees and what can be done are two different things...I was thinking of using a hardened steel hole punch that has half the face removed or possibly a steel letter punch, letter C. The steel you are working would need to be annealed and I’d expect a certain amount of distortion. I imagine it would be quite tedious.
