It's been in the low 80's here, a bit unseasonably warm, but I'm not complaining. I graduated from crutches to a cane last week, and now I finally got down to the little lake by our house for some cane pole fishing. Even able to carry my own pole, Karen carried the folding chairs.
The best thing though, is that I finally got to use my Devin Thomas damascus peanut on a fish belly!
A nice fat perch.
I'd already guessed the damascus was neat stuff, but it zipped open that fish like it was magic. Karen caught a nice perch, and a large hamburger size bluegill for the pot, and I got to use the peanut on some more fishbellies. By the end of the morning, we had dinner, so it was home with the catch. After each use, I just swished the knife around in the lake, and wiped it off on the leg of my jeans. Home, it got some dish soap and brush and a drop of 3-In-one in the joints. If the damascus was developing any kind of patina, I don't see it. The rain drop pattern is still vivid, and shows no sign of graying, other than whats already in the low spots.
Thanks Jamie! It's now been Christianed in the old time jackknife way.
Carl.
